Title: Issues with the Black 2015 CVO Street Glide?
Post by: Gunz2090 on December 10, 2014, 08:42:25 AM
I've had a down payment down for the 2015 black CVO street Glide since September.  My dealer originally told me it was scheduled to be in at the end of Sept.  The date keeps getting bumped back.    they say now that it should be in in about another week.
There are hardly any Black CVO's pictured on the internet.    Has anyone heard of any trouble with their production ?        Seems like you see all of the other colors all over the net, but rarely any of the blacks.

Hmmm....now that you mention it, I have not seen any of the Starfire Black bikes.  I would love to see one of these...the HD corporate site photos don't do any of the colors any justice.  They all seem to look a LOT better in person.  I waited 4 months for my Hard Candy Mercury bike...good luck!

The dealer I'm buying from had the same bike on the floor right when they came out this year, but it was sold.     Once I saw it in person and also heard the stereo with the two 300 watt amps,  I put my down payment down for the one that I'm still waiting on.
I'm trading in a 2011 FLHTK that I chromed the hell out of.   Decided this blacked out look would be a nice change of pace.   Allready have king tour pak and accessories as well as a bunch of other parts ordered.    Want to be ready to roll in style in the spring.

Same story here. I had one on order since Sept. with a delivery date of early Dec. and I was informed last week that it might be some time in January. I told them to change to a CVO Limited and I am picking it up next week.

I may have considered doing the same thing if I hadn't already ordered add ons.    Too cold to do much if any riding here in IL now anyway.  Comes in when it comes in I guess at this point.

There was one scheduled for December (sometime) at K'ville HD and the sales manager was going to call me when it came in (along with any UV) but last time I was over there (a week ago), no word on the black/gold.  May be they are having issues with paint and quality....although bad/poor quality paint issues hadn't stopped the MoCo from releasing something to the public so far.

I'm not to sure I would worry about the delivery date being pushed back. I put a deposit on the HC before it came in. I was told it was due to arrive in early Oct. The delivery date got pushed back and showed up 6 weeks from what I was told. Once you get it, you will forget about the waiting time.

I'm in the same boat up here. Ordered my black bike in Sept, and still no word on when it will show. I've already got my fullsac exhaust, lrs windshield, cvo ultra passenger boards, matching backrest pad, fork tie downs, fairing wind deflectors, mid frame heat shields, fork baffle, 4 post docking kit, and the solo tour pak mount, plus a few other goodies, sitting here waiting.

Cape Cod Harley had the Black.  I didn't like it.  There is barley any contrast between the gold and the black.

i bet once it gets out in the sun, the contrast between the 2 colors will be much more noticeable.  kinda like my bike, most people think it is black and gold, until they see it in the sun and the green just really jumps out.

Same here. I dont want a bike that people go, Nice bike, as it's roaring down the road a block away at 60 mph. I want one that as they walk past it parked, they take a step back and say WOW!! That's freaking awesome looking. I guess different individual tastes is why we take a $40,000 bike spend another $5000 to have what we want.

FWIW: I struggled with the same issue regarding the black CVOSG.

I have several pictures of it at a few dealerships both inside and outside. I agree that although the paint quality is great the gold in the paint just isn't dark/brite enough. It would be gorgeous if it was.  In the sun it looks like a very well painted black standard Street Glide.

It would have been my first choice but I decided to go with the ultra violet/hot lava instead. I'm very pleased with the colors.  Ironically, if you look at it in the shade or inside, it looks like it is black and hot lava because the blue "flips" colors depending on where you look at it.

I think Harley has started using automobile grade paint and clearcoat because it seems to be much harder and immune to haze as opposed to the soft clearcoat in prior years.

If anyone wants some of the black/gold pictures let me know.

Regards

Jerry

The black and clearcoat is high quality and looks real good. Unfortunately the gold gets washed out by the very nice black.  I would brighten up the gold and it would look smoken hot.

Good luck with your choice.

MY dealer found a flaw in the paint on the tank on mine. HD trued to make them wet sand it out but after hours of refusing HD agreed to send a replacement. If it was not a close friend that owned the shop and put the extra effort into actually demanding a replacement tank I would have walked from the bike. Its cold and nasty here in MI so its not a big deal to wait a few more months. Kinda surprised that they let this paint issue get so far out of control

I did not personally see it but it was described to me as " bubble appearance" under the clear coat.

I put a deposit on a black one right after the dealer meetings.  My dealer told me october production.  It also got bumped back 2 times.   Came in a few weeks ago.   They are still sitting on my 2012.  I also kept checking cycletrader and other places in the web.   Very few dealers had the black until about a month ago.  Im thinking it was the last color of the 4 colors to run at the factory.

The paint vendor(Gunslinger Custom Paint) is doing a terrible job on these paint sets. There are a number of them coming through with paint flaws. I have a UV blue that has numerous issues, Lower fairing with clear coat running on the edge(replaced new one ok), Gas tank with orange peel (dealer was told to try buffing it - return to gunslinger- sanded and repainted - now ok, both lower sadddlebags with clear coat chipping around top edge and orange paint showing through where it should be UV blue - HD said returned to gunslinger for repair - one showed up from gunslinger ok, the other looks worse than it did when it went out, now has orange overspray on the inside of the bag to boot. Outer fairing had burn through on the edge from over buffing, gunslinger just cleared over it - new fairing arrived and had a large build up of paint and clearcoat on the top edge - must be returned. Bike has been at the dealer for over three months. My advice to anyone looking to buy a CVO  is carefully inspect the paint, I know I am not the only one having these issues. HD stopped production of the yellow because Gunslinger could not get it right. I assume that is what is happening with the black not being available. I say this because I have been dealing with HD customer service on this now for three months and have spoken to people at Gunslinger personally.

I don't get why the MOCO has Gunslinger do the paint.  The Hard Candy colors have been done in house, and all the CVO Street Glide has on top of that is flames.  I think that after the issues a lot of people are having with Gun Slinger, they'd stop using them.

Tinting the tail and signal lights with "nite shades" on a black bike makes a huge improvement. I did it on my 2012 and I will do it on my 2015 when it arives. Follow this link, and there are pics of my old bike with the lenses tinted.

Central Texas HD in Round Rock (Austin) has at least two, one on the showroom floor, and one came in the truck as I saw it with all their newest unprepped bikes.  The one on the floor had a $49K price tag.  List was about $36k, but they added $10k in markup, and 799 prep, 799 delivery.

They can keep it.  My 2012 is far more beautiful (well, to me anyway :))

Had the black Airwing rack with LED's and lower side lights put on at the same time.   Am probably going to add the Ultra style lights later.   Now just need some riding weather so I can start my break in .       Previously got the V&W power Duals with Hi Output Mufflers,Super Tuner, black LED headlight and fog lights

Disappointed with CTHD's pricing. They used to be an MSRP dealer, but about two years ago I noticed them marking prices up (significantly) on their tags. They would also list standard features for a particular bike as added accessories- pretty misleading practice for the buyer who hasn't done his/her homework.

In other news, I really like the black paint scheme this year. That bike looks sharp.

Heres a couple more pics that I got of the bike when still at the dealers.    If the weather ever warms up and snow melts so I can actually get it outside,   I'll get better pics to post.

Picked mine up and got out for a 300km ride yesterday. A couple things i noticed over the 2012, was that i sat lower and forward, which i dont like. I'm 6'1" with a 35" inseam, so i'm hoping my mustang seat and hiway pegs will correct that. Another is that the 2015 has a much smoother ride, less buffeting, and the handle bars fit me better. Still gonna upgrade to apes in the future tho.
Changing topic, while talking with my salesman, he was telling me that he had 3 black and gold sesg's on order, and all 3 had deposits on them. He also stated that moco contacted him and told him that they have discontinued this color bike, and that they were sending him 1 only, and the other 2 would be the new 2015.5 black with phantom flames. I had my deposit down first, so i got mine, but now he has to let the other 2 buyers know that they have to take the new bike or he will have to refund their money. (he's pissed about this)
If this is true, the black/gold bike should be the rarest of the 4. Cant wait till fall to see the final production numbers.

Congrats on your new ride. I believe the scorching yellow will be the least produced of the four colors. A lot of dealers here in the US have the black and gold right now and the new black is starting to show up. That sucks for those who were hoping for the black and gold color. Still waiting for my hard candy to come in, now I'm told the bike should be in the first week of may, the waiting just sucks.

When they first started showing up here it seemed like every dealer was given a yellow bike to show off. In fact besides mine, the only other color i've seen is yellow. Seen them in three different dealer showrooms, and at the Vancouver motorcycle show. Still haven't seen a hard candy, and that was the one i originally wanted.

MOCO discontinued the Yellow/Black quite some time ago. It's not even shown as an available color option on their website anymore.
