Do You Heel Or Toe Shift?
« on: March 26, 2007, 08:52:49 PM »

Took my heel shifter off first week, guess you just can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Just curious, which do all of you use?  :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

I'm with you, I just can't get used to it. I've also just been too lazy to get around taking it off.

The only time I ever use the heel shift is when trying to find neutral while siting still. I'm with you, Think I'm going to remove it.

sure is, it's that annoying thing I keep hitting my heel on when I move my foot back on the floorboard.

Toe shift about 99.99% of the time.  I just can't tear myself to take the heel shift lever off though.   :-\

it felt awkward at first coming from a softy with forward controls, but i find it easier to heel shift then to try and get my toe between the floor board and the front peg

Oh, that thing.  I thought it was Harley's odd attempt to supply us with a spare shifter rod for when the first one's splines start wearing out.  Mine came off the first night and got used to replace the front one about six months ago (have to mount it upside down but it works perfect).  Guess I ought to get another for a redundant backup  :nixweiss: ?

When I first got a Harley I didn't think I would like the heel shifter, but after using it that's all I use to shift with. Shift up with heel, and shift down w/toe. Keeps your boots/shoes from getting messed up also. :2vrolijk_21: ;D

I have been heel shifting for many years and when I ride other scoots that don't have heel shift ....feels weird to me

I guess it all goes back to what your use to but I am not big on shining shoes so no toe shifting here

Removed mine a few days after purchase.  Actually, as soon as the chrome spacer arrived to take up the slack without having to move the front gear peg all the way to the inside.

Also put the floorboard spacers on to move the floorboards out 3/4 inch.  Made a world of difference, no longer felt like I was  horseback riding and bowing my legs around the tank.

Heel shifter is great. I am lazy, pushing down with my heel is a lot less effort than pulling up with my toes. Also for that occasional blast thru the gears it is a lot faster to kick down.
