Very true Rob!
But someone did.
34,980 customers ponied up for the bat as compared to 8,900 for the shark.
The numbers may change but for the shark nose to catch up you will have to buy a bunch.
Maybe two bunches.

For me it was about looks. I personally thought the batwing looked better, especially from the front. Now, and after riding one, the shark nose has grown on me! I love the feel of ease when manuvering the bike. I also liked the feel on a windy day or behind a truck. I like them both and would be satisfied being in the seat of either one. I was hoping for another CVO Road Glide Ultra this year. Last years Cherry was my favorite but I haven't seen a Frosted Ivory in person yet. Chip, I believe maybe there would be more sharks if the MOCO had some of the paint schemes like they have had with the batwings. I also wish they never went away with the eagle on the fairings and would like to see the eagles on the tanks like the street glides. Being a person that loves bright colors  :bananarock: For the 12's I was hoping to see one with a little banana in it. Low and behold there is one...in a batwing! :D Hmmmmmmm........ ::)

I would say the Bat has out sold the shark for many reasons.  The number one reason is looks, and that is what puts most people in the brand to begin with.  The bat is more traditional.

I swore I would never own a shark, it was ugly.  Then a Salesman convinced me a Shark is what I wanted, a nice long ride on one.

That is all it took to get me into a CVO Shark.  The look has grown on me lots.

The room on the bike, the shark wins for me.  The ride in high winds, the shark wins for me.  The ride going by 18 wheelers the shark wins for me.  Slow speed in parking lots and a nice twisty road the shark wins for me.

In 2009 he rode in on this. I think he pretty much rides whatever he wants.

I have one of each, and to me the Shark nose feels better as the bike seems to handle better.  I do however ride the batwing more as it already had more miles on it.  I think it is the stationary fairing that I like.

This is a funny and entertaining thread.
Lets try comparing the reality of sales.
Taste is subjective but the MOCO builds bikes that are most wanted by their customers.
Since this is a CVO Screamin Eagle site let's use the "approx" production numbers the MOCO publishes for Shark nose/Batwing CVO/Screamin Eagles.
The reality of which bike consumers select as most popular is determined by sales.
Those numbers are,

Sharknose Screamin Eagles      8,900

Batwing    Screamin Eagles    34,980

I have both, I enjoy both, but the reality of which is most popular is told by the numbers above.
Check the Harley CVO History site, even though it says the numbers are "approx" there is a clear sales leader.
But this thread is very entertaining.
No matter who eats who.

 ;)

SBB,
Thanks for the stats. To be honest, I'm not surprised. As I ride I see very few Road Glides. I think most prefer the 'classic look' of the batwing. However, it appears the Moco is going out of its way to promote the RG. Why? Who the heck knows. Maybe somebody in marketing convinced WillieG that a new approach would help sales.

BTW, I started this thread strictly for fun, no controversy intended. And.....getting back to which mascot is tougher...The Bat is no match for The Shark. ;)
