Title: Rinehart slip on help
Post by: Designflaw on May 06, 2019, 09:02:50 PM
Bought some slip ons to get through the summer, and they are anything but slip on.

Working on the right side, needed some persuasion. Now it needs a half inch twist and is not budging. Thought about taking it off and trying again and... not budging. I can't persuade it off the same as on which was 2x and malot.

So, how best do I resolve this, strap wrenches? If it has to come off, how best to knock it back off?

How do I help the other side move easier

Spray some penetrating oil, like WD-40 etc., on to the header/muffler junction.  Aim into the muffler so it gets inside the junction.  Give it a few minutes to "creep" in, then twist or rotate the muffler.

If this doesn't loosen it enough, hold the exit end of the muffler with one hand and the header at the muffler/header junction.  Gently raise and lower the end of the muffler while holding the header so it doesn't move.  Works better if a helper is available to pull on the muffler while raising/lowering.

I always put some lubricant on the end of the header before installing or removing the mufflers.  Good luck.
