tin rattle from rear
« on: May 11, 2009, 10:54:33 PM »

I've got a rattle coming from the rear suspension. It sounds like it's on the left side. I can't find anything loose. The dealer swears that it's the axle cover hitting the muffler. They're not even on the correct side. They want to replace both parts (warranty). There is no way this is the problem. It's a rattle not a scraping sound. Is it possible that the belt is hitting one of the belt guards? I.m new here so any info will be helpfull

Have you checked on the play in the drive belt. To much play may cause it to hit against the belt guard when you let off the throttle.

There is no rubber residue. I can tell you the sound appears more when the motor is under load.

Check your wheel bearings if you had your tire change. thats the noise my bike made before the rear bearing blew out.

After much trial and error. The problem is in the axle cover. The screws are tight but it "snaps" against the swingarm while riding at highway speeds. I havn't decided how to resolve this yet but, it should be very simple.
