Title: More Bloody Misery
Post by: Welshman on October 06, 2010, 05:36:39 PM
I have black / Crimson love the bike BUT , major issue with rear LED . Went to key west poker run and the LHS was on then off completely . Took to Miami HD they said faulty connector on LED it worked , then 50 miles in went out . I tried to fix it , whist being overseen by a cop . Bag fell over it got scratched ( I was livid ) wouldn't have touched the thing if not for the connector.
Next it worked then off . Took to Tampa HD ( who are the best dealer I have dealt with ) . They fixed it , drove away went out again an an irate cop pulled me over ( and escorted me home good job I had the work bill with me . Back IN AGAIN , NOW ITS DEEMED FAULTY CONNECTOR UNDER SEAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bike been in a for a week week , HD sent wrong damn part . Now out of stock !!

The HD service at moment is worst I have seen . Thing that gets me is its 32K , would we put up with this crap from auto BMW or Mercedes ? I think not .

Anyone else had a problem with LED lights ?

Advise needed , would you go after HD to get bag repainted ? who would you contact ?

This is dangerous on the LED and I am pissed beyond belief

I'd be looking for warranty on the bag with a document trail of how and why it happened. Along with it being a customer service issue it's a HUGE safety issue!

If it were me they would not be repainting my damaged bag they would be replacing it!
Documentation!!!!!
Photo copy of all repair attempts.  Statements from officers. If HD doesn't make it right, (which I would bet they will) you will be armed for the battle.
Call HD customer care(414) 343-4056.  Make sure you tell them you love the bike but this is sucking the fun out of it for you.
Kill them with kindness and then don't back off until you are satisfied.

I agree with the rest,  document the trail of how it happend,  first ask, then demand.

a bag "replacment" is what would make it right.

Good luck

I had a problem with my rear lights on my 2010 SESG which ended up being due to the wire that ran under the rear fender to the lights.  It was originally attached under the rear fender by tape.  I ended up having the dealer install a new section of the wire harness and run it in the gutter next to the rear fender that housed the wire for the license plate light.  Why HD ran it the way they did is just dumb.  Hopefully, they do not run wires under the rear fender any longer.

Good luck.

@Welshman  I have the same issue going on with mine right now.  2011 SESG on the left side.  Took the bike into the dealer and they said the wire harness at the light is fine, has power etc.  So, they've ordered a new light.  Not exactly happy since its not all that safe riding with a missing tail light.  BTW, mine did exactly the same thing you described.  Was on an all day ride and friend behind me said the LHS was cutting in and out.  By the end of the day it was a goner. Other than this, no issues with the bike so far in 1800 miles.

Thanks at least not alone funny its same LHS . Actually I called customer service ( at advise of dealer ) and was calmish ( have a welsh accent do always sound a little tense !) . Explained all , they were out of stock , but very quickly called around and had one sent from Seminole HD over night . According to HD Tampa the connector under seat the one half was too big so connection wasnt tight .

It seems to help dealer if we (the customer) call HD direct , I was on a 3 way call at one time )

Will keep you posted but at his point I have no faith it will work .

I had same problem; left side also. Noticed when I got off the bike and the security flashed, left side didn't go. Checked brake lights--didn't work. Then it worked on and off. Dealer found nothing, did nothing. That was 2,000 miles ago and seems to be working fine now.

Just in case, what is the exact part (number?) you guys are replacing?

TIA.

Thats exactly why I dislike the HD led lights, my 07 springer is now on its 3rd tri-bar brake light, when they GO your stumped you cant just ride into the next gas station and replace a bulb.............the first time mine went I just bought a bicycle lamp and clipped it onto my rucksack to ride home 500miles

My left hand tail light went out today. 300 miles on the bike. The parts guy told me they are on backorder until 11/11. That SUCKS since I won't ride it without the lights being functional. I'm just not going to take a chance. Ditto on the LED lights. They look great but when they fail (and it seems somewhat common) it can ruin your day (or week).
