Lets hear about your trip plans for this summer?
« on: May 13, 2011, 08:21:56 PM »

We leave 6/17 around 11am from Plymouth Michigan, cross the bridge into Canada and spend the 1st night in Niagara Falls following via the northern coast of Lake Erie.  After that we follow the south shoreline of Lake Ontario traveling through upstate New York to the St Lawrance Seaway and just south of Montreal we head south to Lake Placid.  From there we head north east across Lake Champlain to Bar Harbor Maine for a couple days of riding and good seafood.  From there southeast to Laconia, then south through the Catskills to route 6 eastern grand canyon across northern PA to the Ohio turnpike and back to Michigan.  4 mountain ranges, 7 national parks, 70% of the route are highlighted motorcycle routes via MAD MAPS.  2,600 miles, 11 buddies.  Route posted and shared as Bar Harbor on Harley Ride Planner.

Wife has been having a lot of pain in her knee that was totally replaced only five years ago! Doctor told her today he thinks it may be loose! Probably will require another replacement knee...so vacations and rides may be limited this year. :nixweiss: :(

Leaving the 27 th of July for thermopolis Wy for a couple of days at the hot springs. On to Jackson Hole, up thru the Tetons. Two days in Yellowstone then over  the Beartooth hwy on our way to the Sturgis rally for three days. Heading up  thru N. Dakota across northern Montana into Glacier Nat. Park. Then on to  Idaho, down thru Utah and back home to Colorado. Should be a fun filled ride for 20 days.  :2vrolijk_21:

Tomorrow I am just going to Carmel for the Quail Motorcycle Gathering

Next Saturday 5/20 I am leaving San Jose headed to Laughlin, Sunday I will go on to Vegas for a few days. Wednesday I will take off for Albuquerque to hang out at my house and the Saturday BBQ contest. Sunday up to the Red River run for the day, riding with the In-Laws. Monday I will do the 1066 Mi back to San Jose.

For sure we are doing Sturgis, two days from San Jose to Sturgis (Picking my wife up at the airport on the way) then a few days in town and through Yellowstone and Seattle on the 10 day ride back to San Jose.

There are other rides in there but these are the only two that come to mind right now. I might ride down to San Diego for the 4th of July.

Taking a month to go from SD across Montana and then up the Canadian Rockies to Alaska. A tour around the main inland loop of Alaska then back home by a different route thru Canada.

Mid July, leaving SD for the West Coast to do some of HWY 1 and the St. Monkey Mountains.

Yea, living here thru South Dakota Winter turns you into a ride-a-holic come warm weather. I am aiming for 20K miles this season, only got in about 11K last summer (mostly going back and forth to Oklahoma). I'm retired so got plenty of time. At some point mama is gonna crack down on me before I spend all our retirement savings, LOL... Gotta do it now though, The toll of living hard and multiple serious accidents is starting to catch up on me. I feel like I gotta get the Alaska trip in while I am still physically able to do it. If all goes well, I might try to get down to the "Deep" South East late in the summer too. My wife has never seen the country I came from. Plus I got 6 grandkids down there I need to visit.

My granson in Oklahoma just finished his last harshest round of chemo for Lukemia and is now entering the "maintenance stage" of treatment. He is only 5 years old and insists on giving himself the injections thru the port planted in his chest. I guess no other kids have done it so all the doctors and nurses think he is a little hero. There is no doubt in my mind that he is already more of a man at 5 than his Daddy or Grandaddy...

Very Cool, you need to share how you did that.  We are taking our 6th annual trip.  Ours aren't nearly as long or elaborate because most of us either have jobs or own businesses, and as if that doesn't get in the way, we all have families, 9 days is pushing limits.

Last two weeks of June.  Pulling bike in trailer so Father-in-law can tag along.  Meeting my parents in Cheyenne WY, going up to Custer State Park area for a few days of camping.  Wife and I are taking a couple of days of riding around Sturgis area.  Then moving to Thermopolis WY area to camp for a few more days.  Wife and I will do some day rides out of Thermopolis.  My folks will take Father-in-law site seeing while we ride.  Really looking foward to some relaxation in beautiful sorroundings.   :orange:

After last years NW US/SW Canada trip, decided on something different this year, leaving late June.

Ferry from England to Holland, north through Germany to Denmark, into Sweden, ferry from Sweden to Finland, through Finland and into Russia. Three days in St Petersburg, then leave Russia and into Estonia.  South through Latvia and Lithuania, into Poland, West across Germany, back into Holland, ferry back to England, then ride home to Scotland.

Probably gonna do around Lake Superior. From Southern Ontario, up to Tobermory, take the ferry across to Manitoulin Island, then up Highway 17 thru Thunder Bay and hug the roads around Lake Superior into Duluth. From there, probably end up in Milwaukee then take the ferry across Lake Michigan to Muskegon, MI, then less than a day home from there.

I plan to ride to the store a few times & buy beer.

Not sure yet how far away that store will be.

Leaving in the morning  :huepfenjump3: from Toronto. Down 219. We are going to the site where the plane went down in Pennsylvania on 9/11. Pigion Forge, The Snake and The Dragon. 2 nights in Nashville then down to New Orleans and the french quarters. :bananarock:. From there a bee line to Key West then back home to Toronto. :2vrolijk_21:.

Probabbly too late, but maybe you can catch it on the way home.  You must ride Rt 6 in Pennsylvania, great ride and catch the Eastern Grand Canyon too!

Me and 4 other guys are leaving Friday morning the 10th. Taking the backroads and the Blue Ridge Parkway to Lexington, VA where we'll meet up with some friends and spend the night. Saturday morning the entire group will head South on the Blue Ridge until mid-afternoon, where we'll have lunch... when the others head back North, my small group will continue South on the Blue Ridge and spend a couple of days on the Cherohala Skyway, the Dragon, the Foothills Parkway, etc. with no set plans, just ride.

It's a real saga, Cyril!   First you have to have "invitation" documents from a hotel/travel agent. Then there's a downloadable form on the Embassy's agents' website. http://ru.vfsglobal.co.uk You fill that in, with lots of detail - parents names, your last three jobs, where you went to college, blah blah. You need to attach a passport photo. If you're going by bike or car, you need to include the (original) V5 for it, provide an itinerary, and a list of who you're travelling with.  If you're self-employed, you also need original bank statements for a three month period showing a minimum balance (I forget how much - the site tells you.)  Then you take/send that to the appropriate place (London or Edinburgh), and pay £75.00 each.  If you've done it all correctly, you get your passport back a week later with the visa, for the exact number of days you have a hotel booked. We got ours back last week.  :)

Are you thinking about going on your bike?

Hi Jim,

just found out for UK or US citizen only visa procedure is much more complicated: the questionnaire for the rest of us is just half as long as  yours  ::)

Yes, ours is a childish response from the Russian government to the UK government not making it easy for Russians to get a UK visa Hans.

If you arrive on a cruise ship, no visa is required, providing you are there no more than 72 hours, Cyril.

Due to the old dude in the chrysler running into me, I'm taking my vacation rides vicariously thru all of you and your ride reports/logs/etc.  I'll be awhile before I'll be able to lift a scooter off the jiffy stand much less attempt to ride.  So, just keep those ride reports/pics/tall tales, etc. posting and I'll manage.  ;) har.  spyder

My cousin from Oregon stopped by today to say hello...he and his wife are spending the next 5 weeks riding to the East coast, up through Canada, and back to Oregon.  His ride is a 2004 Goldwing with 136,000 miles.

Leaving mid July with my step son for eight days, heading out to Mount Rushmore and that area for 8-9 days, it will be a b*ll's to the wall kind of a ride but doable.About 1524 miles from were I'm at in GA.
