Static in intercom and CB
« on: June 21, 2009, 09:03:08 AM »

When I use the PTT or VOX on my intercom or CB the radio transmits static instead of my voice.  Also the CB or intercom light on the radio display flashes on and off very rapidly as if the PTT button is being pressed and released while talking.  Does the same thing with the rider and passenger connection.  Adjusting or turning off the VOX or squelch doesn't help.  It's not in my head sets since I've tried two different headset systems (HD and J&M).

Every thing seems to point to the radio head.  What do you think?

Is there a good aftermarket radio on the market that allows use of the handle bar radio controls and has all the bands as the HD radio?

I would agree the first check is antenna. Have you - cut off, changed, or modified the antenna. Did it ever work correctly ? If it did, did you change anything on the bike between working and not working ? Does it happen with just intercom and the CB off. If so, it's not likely the antenna.
Just a couple of things you probably already thought of.

Tommy, I know MJZ has a Sony marine unit in his nana but he has had major problems and it has been replaced several times.  Might want to give him a shout for more info.

If your bike is out of warranty I just saw a post in another thread for http://ironcrossaudio.com.  They are former HK techs and will repair your unit for a flat $250.

Good luck and let us know.
