Gold key

<< < (2/2)

Twolanerider:
Anyone that really wanted to dig in could go to parts manuals for 2003 and some other year.  Look up the CVO models and see if keys carried the same part number.

Farm boy:
Well dummy me. I didn't even think about that.  I even have both parts catalogs next to the recliner. They are the same p/n.
The initial reason for the question,  was because I asked the local dealer, and all I got was it superceded to the new gold key for 80 bucks.

Was there ever a gold (brass) key for the 2002 SERK?

Or if not, if you had a two year old 2002 and wanted a brass key, could you order one in 2004? Or did you have to provide a 2004 (or newer) VIN to get one?

I understand the 2003 key was part of an "Anniversary gold key package" or something that you had to order if you wanted one both on a CVO and on any other 100th anniversary bike. And that the -04 and newer key (part no 71031-04) was included in the deal when you bought a CVO, although not every dealer handed them over when you bought the bike.
