Title: heated hand grips on a SESG
Post by: Barek on March 17, 2010, 10:54:56 AM
Hi...

I had some heated hand grips on my old 08 street glide that i was very satisfyed with.
it was the standard aftermarked type "flame" they all have in the store. part no http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?WebLogicSession=GkkFl4byEIt1jN1Ai4FTCsGyTsX2253wfRgX6APHrFlR7zepDVuI!82219858!181237811!7005!8005&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448647381&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302292479&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302292479&bmUID=1189372934557&bmLocale=en_US (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?WebLogicSession=GkkFl4byEIt1jN1Ai4FTCsGyTsX2253wfRgX6APHrFlR7zepDVuI!82219858!181237811!7005!8005&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448647381&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302292479&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302292479&bmUID=1189372934557&bmLocale=en_US) 56047-03C
Now on the new SESG i whant to have some heated hand grips cause of the cold weather we have here in Norway.
The dealer told me that there ar NO on that will fit on on this bike. They was also not shore if Even the org CVO electra heated hand grips would fit on the SESG.

So my qust is. Have anybody any idea or opinion regarding this "problem"
Will it be possible to install heated hand grips on a SESG ? aftermarked type or CVO Electra ?

-Cold Norwegian
looking out the window and sees the snow is melting.... slovely and countdown to a new spring on a new SESG  :)

Cheers

Do a search here (site) for "Heat Demons" you'll find several threads and high remarks about them.

why in the world would the dealer say something like that? does anyone else out there believe the HD heated grips wont work on a2010 SESG?

Hi Barek
I read here or somewhere else that somebody got 2010 CVO Ultra heated grips from his dealer (was not easy but possible). My dealer will try to get these grips (they match in style) as well. On the U.S. HD parts site, several heated grips are available for the 2010 SESG: http://www.harley-davidson.com/browse/browse_products.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309369520&bmUID=1268852060747&bmLocale=en_US&page=2 (http://www.harley-davidson.com/browse/browse_products.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309369520&bmUID=1268852060747&bmLocale=en_US&page=2)
Maybe you should have some serious talk with your dealer.
Regards, Klonko

Do what D00d says!  I'm on pair three on Nemo and pair two on the wife's Dyna.  If they weren't covered under w...ty I'd throw 'em the heck away and get the demons for sure.

They are looking in the P&A book and it says "not for internally wired handlebars (or something to that affect)" and just saying what the book says. This has always been in the P&A book even when these same grips came stock on the CVO's from the factory.

BTW - It has been well documented here the problems w/longevity of these grips. Not many have had them last (continue to work).

yes, but the bars on the CVO arent wired i think, correct? i personally am planning on chubby 575 w internal wires AND heated hand grips internally. hey, doesnt hurt to try, especially when I am doing the work, right?

Case in point of what I mentioned in previous post about durability/dependability of the H-D heated grips.

Heat demons is the way to go. Do it once and forget about it. :2vrolijk_21:

Some models have been in the past.. I know the SEEG, CUSE have been internally wired. If you are changing the bars anyway and are concerned about matching grips you can use your existing grips and use the Heat Demons as they aren't grips, but fit under the grips.... and they will be more dependable/durable then the MoCo heated grips.

I was one of the guys that got the 2010 heated grips on my SESG. I had them Put on right away so they would be covered for the term of the warranty. They can change them 50 times as far as I care. I have always had the H-D heated grips for as long as they have offered them. Ive had to replace a couple times. Last time I got a pair they were good ones. They have run over two years. Still working for the guy that bought my bike. If I couldn't get them with my warranty however I would seriously consider the heat demons.

Thanks for the info.

I just was down at the dealer and checked up wiring on both SEUC and SESG. They have the same cabling and trottle devices. same part no on both. BUT when i took a look inside the right handlebar on my SESG i noticed that the grip heater connection plug was not mounted in as it should have been. But according to the books it seems that i only have to replace the outer part of the trottle device with an other one with the connection plug for the grip heater. If that is correct it saves a lot of hours of work. I'll have this verifyed by next week.
I also got some info that the SEUC grip heater from sometime back in 09 and up is more reliable than the older one. Just a note i got from the dealer.

On my 08 StreetGlide, I Have used the MoCo aftermarked flame heating grip for two year with out any problem so for me they have been good.

Else i will have i look at the Heat Demon and use the orginale SESG grips...
But as far as i have reading here it's mush hassle to get it to work correctly...

Hi.

Still waiting.....   and the dealer is waiting.

If some one have or can scan in the pages from the parts book that shows the grip with cable it would be nice.
this for SESG and SEUG

I'm getting down to the dealer today to pick up the bike after they have added some mods and dynoed it.
Just with air, tuner and muffs it shows 150 nm@ 3500 on the back weel  and the guys the just smiled :)

I'll update the hread when i got the info from the dealer regarding the grips.....

That would be so cool if all we had to do was change the connector. Last year I just bought a pair of heated gloves. Pain in the butt, but when its that cold who cares!

Ok, Took the bike to an aftermarket bike guy, trying to have the Heat Demons installed, after taking the bike apart , and talking to a reamer, and Hear Demons, they would not do the job, they were  afraid that it would weeken the handbars. They called a Harley dealer and was told , there is no Heat available for the SESG.

So I am asking if any one would has done it with the Harley, if you could find all the part numbers and post them as it looks like it depends on the parts guy being able to do his job.

BTW- they did say it looks like it is pre-wired for heat grips from Harley..... :nixweiss:

There Service Manger and the Service Tech disagreed on what to do

I had it done at Lake Shore HD in Libertyville, IL.  Service guy is Kory.  My name is Derek, he will remember my SESG(spiced rum) and be able to hook you up by pulling my order.  Hope this helps.

Cool, hope it works out for you. I love them, even in 80 degrees I have them on 1 to reduce fatigue.

FYI-

George,

We used the replacement grips from a FLHTCUSE part #s55911-09a and 55913-09. The right side throttle should have the wires in bar and fairing only needing to be connected at grip and in fairing. The left grip will need to be wired internal.

The bar  has enough room to pull the wiring sans connectors its not easy but can be done. Some reliefing may be needed on the switch housing in some cases not to pinch the wiring.

Thanks,

Kory

Hi,

It took a while before i got answers on this on.  Or the correct was that HD europe "refuse" to answer the quest they got from my dealer, when they checked for this internally.
Kory have  the answer :) order FLHTCUSE part #s55911-09a and 55913-09.

But as curious i was i had to check and verify  for myself...
What we did was to go true the spare part book for SESG and FLTHCUSE and checked part by part. It was all the same except for the left end stub on the electronic throttle control. Then we checked the handlebar on the bike. On the first check earlier the dealer climbed after he have checked that the heater connector was NOT on the bike. What we did now was to dissemble the right handle bar to look closer and then we found that the connector was blended with a larger plastic cap 20mm instead for the small 10mm as normally. when we removed that it was all there :)

So to resume the conclusion: Order the FLTHCUSE heated handlebar if you can:) not as easy for all to order the original CVO heater as they require the vin no. The wiring is all complete on the right side, just remove the end cap on the throttle control and hook it on. On the left side there "are" enough space to pull the wire true, just work patient with it.

Org HD should then be bolt on...  but as everything else expensice..
Heat demons are cheaper BUT it would weaken the handle bar, and why risk any critical situation ??

Just nice to know.....

Hibapeluba.....
