4 ohm speakers to CVO Ultra -09?
« on: August 26, 2011, 01:29:09 AM »

What happens if I install 4 ohm Hogtunes speakers in fairing (factory speakers are 2 ohm)? The entire audio system is stock HK with amp below tp.
Can Hogtunes tweeter pod be installed too?
Can anyone who knows answer!

Generally speaking, when you double the load on an amp you cut the output power by 50%. While this is not always the case, it is a good rule of thumb. Replacing the 2 ohm factory speakers with 4 ohm drivers will cut the output of the amp to 20w/ch instead of the rated 40w/ch. The tweeter pod can be added and should not cause an issue to either the stock speaker setup or an aftermarket speaker swap.

Have you looked at J&M speakers (www.jmcorp.com)? They have direct replacement 2 ohm speakers and people here on the site have posted very good comments when using them with the stock CVO Ultra amp. Not sure of your budget but Focal makes some very nice (although costly) speakers with a 2 ohm rating as well.

Hope this helps ...

The J&M ROKKER series components are impressive of course ,,,,

J&M ALSO offers very competitively priced 7.25" fairing and 5.25" rear speaker kits, for use with the stock Harley HK radio, that will provide better sound & fidelity than any other brand ,,,,

take a look at the Harley pages on the J&M website at http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=43  ,,,, http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=44   ,,,,,,

for the ULTIMATE sound experience for your Harley Bagger, see the ROKKER series audio page at http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=45   ,,,,

you can do any of the following or do the cvo setup from hogtunes ;D.They do have a cvo set up with 2 ohms, you can also do the lowers and also the hogtune pod.I do know this as this is the setup on my 09 cuse :bananarock: :bananarock:.you can always call pez, outstanding person and great help :2vrolijk_21:.

the hogtunes is a great system, better than stock but there is even better systems out there. My new 2012 cuse is going to be J & M system with lowers, just looking for even more ,never seem to have enough, allways looking for more.Don't get me wrong the hogtunes is a great system.
If i can help more let me know, don't use the 4 ohm though

when an amplifier is rated for use with 2-ohm speakers ,,, it will work fine with any speaker that has an impedance of 2 ohms or GREATER ,,, up to about 50 ohms ,,,,

you will only get into trouble when a radio or amplifier is spec'd to run with 4-ohm or 8-ohm speakers ((1998-2005 Harley radio for instance)) and you connect a speaker to it with LESS impedance than it is designed for ,,,,,

John I thought a one time you told me that you have modified many bikes with HAWG Wired amps to drive the ROKKER Speakers. The HAWG Wired Amps are 4 Ohm and ROKKER Speaker are 2 Ohm. So how did you do this with out issues??  :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Brad ,,,,,

you are correct, I have done that ,,, and it is because I have some amount of experience with the Hawg Wired amps, and they don't seem to mind running 2 ohm speakers ,,,,

,,,,, most amplifiers have a certain amount of tolerance built in ,,,,, but I would NOT recommend connecting 1 ohm speakers to the Hawg Wired amps ,,,,
