Cruise Control Stopped Working
« on: September 27, 2015, 04:57:05 PM »

Advice please.

Bike is 2011 CVO RoadGlide Ultra. Done 23k miles.
Cruise Control just stopped working on the motorway. Is there anything I can check/fix or is it a dealer job.

Check to see if your brake lights are working correctly.  '11s had issues with the rear brake switch.

Thanks for the response TDKKART

Yes, Just failed it's first MOT because rear brake light not working. Works ok on the front brake. New switch ordered yesterday so should have it by end of week latest.

Do you mean that because the switch does not work then the cruise control stops working? Amazing.

This Forum is extremely useful!

As I recall, I had that same situation with my '07 Electra Glide.  Strange until you realize how they're tied in together.

Yup...  Had the same thing happen to our '13 CVORK just before we headed back from PCB to ATL last year.

https://ridingtwoup.wordpress.com/2014/10/11/cruise-control-blues-front-brake-light-switch-fail/

The cruise control uses signals from the front & rear brakes to "cancel" cruise and if either one of those micro switches acts up or sticks, the cruise control will not work.  In my case, it was the front brake micro switch that was screwed-up.

At least on the older bikes you'll also lose cruise if the brake light bulb is burned out.

Update from OP

The cruise control stopped working.
TDKKART advised that this could be the rear brake light switch, they are apparently prone to this failure which stops the cruise control working also.
The  bike failed the annual roadworthy test because the rear brake light switch was not working.
The switch was replaced.
Cruise control back to working again for about one hour.
Cruise control stopped working although the rear brake light switch is working ok.

Anyone any ideas please.

JohnT

You may want to check the Clutch Sensor switch.

The cruise on my 2014 Limited suddenly stopped working and at the same time lost the gear indicator.
Happened a couple of times then the clutch switch stopped working. The problem was the left side control unit.
