Boom 1.18.3 2015 01 20
« on: January 20, 2015, 05:25:41 PM »

I just loaded 1.18.3 on my '15 FLHTK.

It loaded up just fine, took about 4-5 minutes. Long enough for me to discover that while the ignition is in accessory, you can push the bottom of the dimmer and hold it for a second or two and make the headlight come on low beam. Press it again to extinguish.

OK, the important things that I found while it's in my garage:

I successfully loaded a trip with 12 points and it pulled it up as one trip. I even ran the simulator for a minute.

Also, the zoom seemed work correctly where the problem was upon boot, and first use of zoom (in or out), it would zoom to max magnification.

So, I call two major advances with this.

Let's see what they broke in the process.

I updated my 2015 FLTRUSE this morning with the 1.18.3 software version.

AVC not working - works now
Auto Dim not working - works now (haven't been through a tunnel yet but it adjusts for different levels of light)
Intermittent PTT not muting music - works now
Time Zone issue - well at least it's the right time for East TN. Hopefully it will adjust correctly when traveling

HD is saying they also up'd the number of waypoints you can put in up to 100!!  Thats great news if it works.
Next question.  Can I use my Mapsource or BaseCamp to load maps onto a drive and then on to the bike??  If not how can I develop maps to use on this thing?   I've already got my Garmin 665 installed on it but I'd like to see if the Boom GPS will work....

Glad they fixed the waypoint issue. Yes you can use Mapsource or Basecamp to load maps onto a drive and import them into your Boom GPS. I am not sure if the latest update fixes this issue but the problem I encountered importing a gpx file into the Boom GPS is that if you make a detour off your route it will keep trying to get you to go back to the route. You are not prompted if you want to recalculate the route, it just does it automatically. Same thing if you have a waypoint on your route and you miss it by even the slightest amount it will continually try to re-route you back to the missed waypoint. I did not see any place in the navigation setup where you can set the recalculation option to manual. The only place you can change from auto calculation to manual is under the traffic setting but it only works for traffic related issues if you have an active route. When I get a chance I will check to see if the auto recalculation is still an issue for a missed waypoint.

I just want to make sure we're all on the same page here.  You can import routes/trips, waypoints, and trips from mapsource or basecamp.  The visual maps and the auto-routing logic associated with it are not transferable to the boom unit.  Those have to be updated from navi-extras.  Any routes that you import will be recalculated in the HD GPS.

I went back and loaded a route from basecamp today into the Boom GPS as a trip.  It had 65 points (destinations) and the Boom GPS handled it just fine.  I had little yellow flags all over the screen!

Wow, That actually sounds too good to be true!  My bike is snowed in for the winter, can't wait to try it out!

We are probably on the same page here. When you import a gpx into the BOOM GPS it will recalculate the route based on the BOOM GPS navigation settings and preferences. For example if your route just has a start and end point and your Basecamp is set for a motorcycle when you import it into a GPS device the route will probably not be the same. That's probably why many of us complained so much about the 9 point limitation on the previous software. From your example of the route with 65 waypoints I believe the reason most of us use so many waypoints is so no matter what the destination GPS settings / preferences are the route will basically work the same across GPS devices.

Yep, sounds like we're talking about the same thing.

The route I loaded was about 125 miles long, and is a scenic route down the Mississippi for about half of it.  Unfortunately, No mapset I've ever had wants to follow those roads, or even go down them at all.  They are treated like off-road trails, even though they're paved.  So I have to use a lot of shaping points to force the track where I want it.

I checked my last several years of trips, and 90% of them would have been fine with 9 waypoints.  It's that 10% that would have made things frustrating.

Maybe it's time to try following a "track"?

Sounds like I need to get my owner's manual out for the system and start reading up. I'd hate to get the bike out in another two months and not have it updated.

Installed it on mine today, the auto dimming worked, as well as it not reverting back to the weather band when the ignition is cycled on and off. Don't know about the rest.

Installed tonight, only problem I had was you have to be smart enough to select Media, I wasn't, but as soon as I did it installed. AVC seems to work now, that was all I had a problem with. Don't like the dimmer deal, I want it bright, day and night, but I did check and it works relation to garage overhead lights.
