NYC to begin seizing loud bikes - EPA stickers soon required
« on: December 11, 2008, 05:09:07 PM »

NY Daily News December 11, 2008

It states that the bike can be held for a FIRST time offense, if it lacks the required EPA sticker, and a max fine up to $1000. Not only cops, but traffic agents, and other city workers can enforce this law... while you're PARKED!

SECOND offense, and they KEEP IT!

The timing seems to be coinciding with the Safety Enforcement program proposed for nearby Suffolk county on Long Island.

And 80dB is easily passed by most car horns.  They should be ticketing everybody who blows their horn in NYC.  Think of the money they'd raise!  We could bail out all 3 car companies and give everybody a refund by Feb 1st or so!

Unfortunately, this is the new name of the game.  Milwaukee (of all places!) actually has a similar law on the books where not only cops, BUT ANY CITIZEN can enter a complaint against you.  You never even know it until the ticket arrives in the mail.

The AMA fights against these laws rigorously. Hopefully many of the riders on this forum are members.  If not, consider joining TODAY.

Howie, when are you moving to South Carolina? Oh wait, we now have a helmet law in Myrtle Beach. How about Florida?

It's goofy on either coast. Left one always has a way of entertaining / pi$$ing you off but hell, the right coast has the D. of C. Cali would really have to work to beat the absurdity there.
