Checked out the new bikes at my local dealership.  The new engines are visible gorgeous, but VERY disappointing "sound" of the bikes.  Sound like a metric.  No growl, very quiet.  Doesn't that defeat the purpose of owning a Harley??  I know a lot of people are drawn to the "number" on the cubic in signage (107/114) but not sure dumping money into a new bike for 50-70cc's (basically adding a lawn mower engine) is worth it yet.  Very little design change to all the chassis...  Only time will tell.

With that being said...its going to be interesting to see what deals they are going to come up with to offload all the '16's!!!!

So THAT is why the MoCo took over the old Briggs and Stratton engine plant in Milwaukee... :huepfenjump3: :huepfenlol2:

Well that's annoying.  Just looking at it you know it is at best really close so not surprised.  Reminds me of a V8 Chevy Monza.

You could change those plugs?  :confused5:

I had a used one and was told I had to pull the motor to do so. Best that I got rid of it. Too much power for a 18 year old kid.

Oh yeah, you could.  Loosen the motor mount, raise it a little, go in through the inner fender, say many bad words, skin several knuckles, use a long extension with a universal joint on the end and, voila, the plug was changed.   Stupid stupid little car.

I just had this same conversation with a couple of guys over some hooters wings in richmond. we talked about the monza power & the plug deal. little strange to see it on here 2 days later.  (dejavu) (do do do do do)

:jack: There was also the V6 in the Pontiac Fiero.  Changing the front bank of plugs you had to drop the motor.  Or another great GM design...changing the front headlight bulbs on the 2009-2014 Chevy Traverse (you go through the front fender wheel well and requires removing the front tire.... >:( )

As long as we're  :jack: , the mid 2000 Malibu is the same way. Have to pull the front bumper cover off the car to change them. If one goes out, change them both at the same time.

Or on my old 454 SS pick up. Had to remove the left front tire and the inner fender well liner to get the oil filter out! Its hard to do with the truck on ramps, oil drained. Lets see how do I get this off the ramps so I can remove the wheel?
Don't ask me how I know. Ask me how long it took to put an adapter on the fender!

Given the ease at which this thread has drifted, is that a reflection on the impact of the M-8.
Looks better thought through than what we have, but probably makes what we have doubly worthless in a couple of years. Better trade in now otherwise the trade value will be zilch later on.

The new one you trade for is going to lose value, too.  Probably out about the same money over a period of time either way.  Best option, financially, is to be happy with what you have.  Emotionally, that's a different story.

The new tanks are pretty easy to remove.  My guess to change the plug you only have to raise the tank.  Even removing and reinstalling tank should be no more than an hour.

HD recommends changing the plug at 30K miles, according to the owner's manual.

It's just the principle of the deal, Dave.  I don't want to take the bike apart to remove two spark plugs on top of having to clean the front of the bike after changing the oil filter... >:(

I know 2016 and prior were every 2 years or 30K on the plug change.  I haven't seen the 2017 manual but K'ville HD said the plug service has moved to every 10,000 miles... :nixweiss:

K'ville HD is wrong.  The new requirement is 2 years or 30,000 miles.  The older models were 10k.
