Title: Tuner for a 124
Post by: BigLew on October 05, 2018, 04:31:43 PM
So I have a S&S 124 HC and need a good cheap Tuner? The bike originally had a Thunder max on it with a procharger but took the blower off. Having a real bear of a time trying to use the Thunder max to tune it.

I also have a 124 HC and the difference between a ok tune and a great tune may cost a hundred or 2 but difference in performance is completely night and day. If a tuner is "great" then I doubt he will be "cheap". You spent a bunch on that motor, really trying to save a hundred or 2 on a tuner??
As always just my humble opinion.

I would give Zippers a call...

I'm not aware of a specific tuning device that will solve the problem.  You need to find a good tuner (human being).  You might be able to find one that will even work with a T-Max, but the odds on that seem to be very low.  Even with the so-called auto tune (which really isn't, but that's a different subject), you have to start out with a very good base map.  If Zippers doesn't have a good base map for your setup, you'll still need to hire someone to do an initial tune anyway.  Find a good tuner and discuss the best way to proceed.

What a nightmare, I’m feeling like I should have left the ProCharger on it. Now they are telling me the injectors are too big

Get a good flash based tuner and a dyno tune and call it a day.  If your injectors allowed a smooth idle and the ECM had control even fully hot.  They should not be too big.  It would be easier with correct size but a tuner and not a program operator will have no problems.

They are entirely too big. Engine had a ProCharger and has much larger than needed for a naturally aspirated engine, would not even idle. It has a 60mm tb on it now with stock 103 injectors and they are better.

What size injectors were they?

I understand what Jason is saying.
If the ECM was able to control the idle and give good low speed manners then the injectors are not too big
May not have to be that big, but if they worked down low before they will work down low again

Procharger will only affect demand at upper end where the bigger injectors would certainly have been required
