Title: Threadjack - Cam chain tensioners
Post by: miker on February 11, 2009, 04:43:48 PM
They should have bought the bikes at Fat Bastits where could have been instructed how to shift correctly and avoid damaging the tensioners..

Have began a study on kickstand shrinkage.  Not sure what is causing it - maybe washing in cold water?

This thread has great potential!  :2vrolijk_21:

It is an Official Threadjacked Thread.  :pepper:

Plus the original subject matter, which was cam chain tensioners, is well recognized as one of the hottest topics of the day - most daily newspapers would devote 6-8 column inches to this subject per day if they knew the interest level of the general public on this topic.  So its best to concentrate on that subject elsewhere, anyway.  :jack:

Threadlockers by Loctite & others have also been under reported & under appreciated.  Expected to see at least one Super Bowl ad about these, but nada.   :nervous:

Maybe a section of pieces or tail ends of threads that are thread jacked is in the making?   :nixweiss:  Who can guess what may lurk ahead?   :nixweiss:

A thread jacked thread section here, from the last 6 months alone, would be quite a few threads & quite a few posts. :jack:   :2vrolijk_21:

Most threads run a course & many inevitably drift away with cross talk from other threads & sometimes this even includes beer & pie.   :drink:

Title: Re: Threadjack - Cam chain tensioners
Post by: iski on February 12, 2009, 09:22:21 AM
Hundreds of threads here are thread jacked.  Maybe thousands.  Our efforts were recognized while others have languished.  Other thread jacked threads sit in their respective corners, under appreciated.

A threadjack thread is by definition, a thread to be jacked.  But unless I miss your drift, and your drift is usually not miss able, you did not name this thread.  So it must be some sort of

"Official Designation".

Of course the new title could refer to these, which are thread jacks:

 :nixweiss:

But so far have not connected these to cam tensioners, which is also in the title so.............it must be something else.

Maybe has something to do with economic stimulus?   :nixweiss:

Could be shifting patterns that are making the tenisoners fail at inconsistent rates.   :huepfenlol2:
Title: Re: Threadjack - Cam chain tensioners

We must think alike.  I watched several bikes yesterday being ridden hard.  Really hard. And I suppose, theoretically speaking, above the posted limit for mph for that particular area, but that can be subjective.  I was hanging onto the handlebars of one of them even so had a good view plus what I saw in the rear view.  Not a single cam tensioner failed & the shifting patterns were all good - at least they stayed below red line.

Improper shifting may be the culprit here as well on tensioner failures.

You mean you've converted to a 'hand-shift' or something other than the conventional footshift?  I've often wondered if riding style (ie: lugging/high RPM's/abrupt throttle roll-off/etc.) could have anything to do w/ the diff. in life of the tensioners on diff. bikes.   :-\  spyder

RPM espcially high rpm likely does.  Clutch wear is increased, also.   Henry & I are referring to a strange/weird comment I got eearlier this week about 6th gear shifting from HD in Daytona.

Somehow I'd missed that delicacy.  Now I shall make it my life's endeavor to partake.  Then, probably, to eliminate waste.  Have a feeling that anything with a name like "meat pie" must lead to that evetuality.
