Anyone using Dakota Digital electric antenna??
-
I am. Have had it on for about a year and a half. I don't have a problem with it and it's at least as good as the stock antenna.
The trick, I think, is to get it located in your fairing, as far from metal as you can. Mine is way to the outside edge of the fairing.

Worked great on FLTRSEI, both on AM/FM and the weatherbands. Occasional reception issue in the less populated areas, but really liked not having the silly steel things whipping around behind me. Give it a try and see what you think! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Have used them on several dressers with results as good or better than the original "whip". Like JC, the secret is in the mounting. The few problems that I've seen with self installs is locating the antenna close to or touching a metal ground in the fairing.

BLM,
Do these work as well on the weather band. Just picked up my new 06FLTRI, and want to get rid of the whip ? [smiley=confused5.gif]
I thought about going to radio shack and picking up a 'Rubber stubbie' ! :-/
Thanks, WD

Willie....I haven't noticed any degredation in the Wx channel with the DD installations I've seen.

I use the $5 Stubbie from Checker Auto . Reception just a good as the stock antenna

Do these stubby's have any flex at the base or are they ridgid. If not flexible it seems like they would get broken off as people walk past the bike..
Rigid, anodized stainless steel mounting. Never had one broken off, but I keep a little something in my pocket with 7 good reasons not to touch the scoot....works perfect. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I tried the DD and it didn't work as well as a loose 2 foot piece of wire hanging inside the fairing.
-
Another choice is the tune trapper. I had better luck with it than the dakota and it isn't effected by metal contact. And works on Am,FM & Weather.

I have tested both the Dakota Digital and the Tunetrapper.

I have one on my SEEG and can't say I would get another one. I live in a rural area and have a hard time with the reception some times. It really depends on if you are riding toward the signal or away from it. I have it mounted in the fairing out to the side away from metal. :o DelNel

I realize this question is about the Dakota Digital, but as others have stated, a 12" rubber whip antenna from Napa, Autozone, etc works great. Mine was $5..
