Title: 2013 CVO Saddlebag iPod Interface
Post by: Phixtit on November 25, 2012, 05:35:50 PM
1) This year Apple changed from a 30-pin connector Cable to a Lightning Cable: iPod 5th Generation; iPhone 5; iPod Nano 7th Generation.
Can anyone confirm if the 2013 iPod interface has the new Lightning connection?

2) If the 2013 CVO comes with the old 30-pin Connector Cable:
Is there still room in the zip up Pouch for an iPhone 5, or iPod 5 & Lightning to 30-pin Adapter

3) Does the 2013 CVO Come with a 3.5-mm stereo Auxiliary Cable like shown in this Picture below?

Not sure why andrejak's bike doesn't have the 3.5mm aux input.  Mine does, 2013 CVO Road King.

The CVO Road King has both Apple 30 pin connector and 3.5mm aux input because there is no HK radio (I'm guessing?).  The CVO Road Glide only has the Apple 30 pin connector since the radio has the 3.5 mm connector on it.

The other difference is the Apple connector is in the right saddlebag on the Road Glide and appears to be on the left saddlebag on the Road King.

2) The Adapter is about 3/4 of an inch long. How much free space is there with the iPod 5 or iPhone 5 in Pouch?

Just wondering, can I use a different IPOD besides the 8GB nano that came with my 12 CVO SG?

can anyone help me with this, i see that a few of you tried using the iPhone 5 with the adapter, i was told by harley that using the Iphone 5 in the saddlebags can possibly destroy the iPhone... i was told not to use the iphone in there.... anyone have any comments to this? has anyone had any issues after using their phone? I want to use my phone instead of the $6.00 ipod they give you.....

They may be misinformed. The only device from Apple that is known to become damaged are those without spinless hard drives (IE. moving parts) such as the iPod Classic (Any Generation).

I ran my iPhone 4 with the Boom Audio iPod interface without any problems or issues for over 10,000 Miles enjoying music.

I have the iphone 5 and the actual Apple made 30 pin to Lightning adapter. It does NOT work with my saddlebag ipod dock on my 2011 SESG. Anyone out there able to get their's to work?

I tried out my iPhone 5 with the adaptor.  Works perfectly.   Little snug in the pouch. It just fit with my case on too.  :2vrolijk_21:

The iPhone5 definitely works, but is a tight fit.  I also found that the adapter without the cable doesn't allow for any "give," and has disconnected itself a couple of times.  The adapter with the cable works better, but then you have about a foot of extra cable to tuck away somewhere.  I've decided to leave the CVO 8GB ipod in for general day-to-day use and commuting, because hooking up and disconnecting the iPhone every time I stop and leave the bike is somewhat of a PITA.  However, for an extended ride, the iPhone makes more sense, because it has 16GB of storage.  I should probably just go to Best Buy and get a 16GB iPod Nano for $100 or so.

Side note on the included iPod Nano...  I took it out of the bike after the first ride & put it in my shirt pocket.  I then bent over & it fell out of my pocket, hit the garage floor, and shattered the glass :'(.  I put a screen protector on it to hold all of the pieces together & it still works, but this tiny thing is easy to lose, easy to drop, and apparently pretty fragile.  A word to the wise - buy a protective sleeve/case for it.

Google Iphone/Ipod repairs around your neck of the woods. Here and around local cities nearby, have these geek kinda guys who replace/repair Ipods/Iphones for pretty cheap. Around here they will replace a Iphone glass for around $60 to $85. I wish I was smart enough to do this because he repairs like 50 fons/pods on a slow day!

Just something to think about.

Fellas not sure if I can be of help here, but I bought my 12 CVO Street Glide used.  It never came with the nano iPod, my little guy had an iPod which his uncle gave him.  I don’t know the part number but it’s twice the size of the nano that Harley supplied bikes with.  It has games and all kinds of things but definitely not a phone.   I loaded some music and it it’s been working fine ever since.  Probably first generation Apple iPod (dinosaur),  as long as it works.
Hope this helped

you don't want to use a first gen ipod with a mechanical hard drive.  they don't like the vibrations much.  but otherwise, pretty much any other ipod will work.  I used to use an old phone after I updated.  a 30 pin to lightning adapter works well, too.
