I almost bought the FoxCreek perf. jacket.
Instead I went back to Bates Leathers and had them make me a SuperVent in brown leather with extra zipper vents in the biceps. Bates could have made the jacket out of perf. leather but they talked me out of it. They said the proper way is to make the jacket (unfinished of course) then perf the leather, then line it and finish it. This ensures that all the seams are made with solid leather. Preforated leather has less leather in it, so it is weaker. Same principle with drilled rotors I guess. They showed me some preforated jackets and racing suits that had come apart at the seams in accidents.
The other thing they said about preforated leather is that there is no way to close it off. It flows all the time, even when you may not want it to. I was teaching an MSF class a month ago, and a rider had a preforated jacket. He said the same thing. He was cold just riding around the range at slow speed. So I opted for the large zipper vents to allow air to flow. I added extras in the biceps to keep my arms cool. I had them measure me sitting on my bike wearing my heated vest. It all fits so well. So now, when it gets cold, I can close off all the vents. When it gets damn cold, I wear my Widder vest underneath it. I chose chocolate brown instead of black to help with the heat. And my other Bates Jacket, the Highwayman is already black.
