« on: July 13, 2018, 04:43:23 AM »

Thanks for all your input on the new 2018 motors. I was just about to trade up my 16 on the new 18....
I think I might hold the ol twin cam for a bit longer...
Hope you all get your issues sorted...

Buddy, there are probably 10 times more threads about 110 problems than they are M8. Just saying.

Sometimes it's just the devil you know versus the one you don't.  From an entirely different perspective I'd take just a little satisfaction that Harley's ongoing issues and inability/unwillingness to solve them keeps it from selling at least one more bike.

Indeed, but consider how many years it has been out. Those posts span ages.

M8 hit the ground sumpin. As mentioned, it is about what ya know.

Granted I am sure the M8 is a fine motor, but I can't blame people wanting to wait for these uh bugs shall we say to get worked out

Exactly...That's how I'm seeing it. I know all motors end up with small issues to large bastards. But all I've heard is bad with the M8s. Not knocking them. I would love a new CVO....But at the present. I'm liking the Devil I know over the Devil I don't...Plus. The 18s are nearly last years models over here aand the new release is only a couple of Months away. My bike has lost $15k in value. So stuff it. Might as well wait and see the new ones. My bike want loose anymore value.....

Every dealer in my area is complaining about the used TC resale because of the M8 bikes being in demand. Don't fall for the hype. I've put almost 10k miles on my M8 CVO with zero issues, Im sure there are isolated problems out there but they are not wide spread. BTW, I bought a 2007 CVO roadking back in 2007. It was the first year of the 110 motor and talk about a blood bath on the internet forums about bad seals and cylinder heads sleeves warping etc. I enjoyed that bike for 30k miles and bought a 2010 cvo next. I take all this "the M8 is going to explode" talk with a grain of salt.

Sold my 15 bassboat CVO for my 117 2017 and never regretted it for a minute. Don't let the forum babble keep you from a much improved bike.

Considering how long the twin cam was in production vs the M8, that's understandable.

I read more then a few “babbles” from guys having issues with M8s. I wouldn’t discount them as babbles as I’m sure their experience with the M8 was a nightmare. But I will say my 18 SERG has almost 1000 miles and runs 10x better than my wobbly 16 Street Glide. At high speeds I had no confidence in that front end.

Many guys would bring their bikes in for mysterious shaking at high speeds and on curves that dealers deemed non-existent to many owners disappointment. I must say the new front end is amazing I love it.

That seems out of step with corporate's sales numbers.

Not really, overall Harley sales are soft in the us but those of us that are buying want the new technology.

And the 2007 110 hit the ground with base gasket troubles.  Also with lifter and compensator issues.   In 2009, they still had lifter and compensator issues, both were replaced under warranty on my 09 CVO.   In 12, HD still had the lifer issues and compensator issues, compensator replaced, bike traded before Lifter failure.  In 15 with the new improved Lifters, my lifters took out the engine on my 15 with 44K miles on the bike, just shy of 2 years old.

I do not think a Harley motor has ever hit the ground with out major issues, with the exception of the V-Rod but Porsche designed that engine.

There will be more. If you are one that has trouble free service GREAT ride and enjoy I'm happy for you. As an owner of an 07 the ongoing issues every year since have kept me from drinking the Kool aide again.
