M8 cam change specially tools?
« on: July 14, 2018, 07:48:35 PM »

What tools are required to change the cam in the M8?

I have the tools for the Twin Cams and I wasn't sure if any of them carried over to the M8.

The cam bearing install tool is different than a twin cam.

I bought the George's Garage install tool and also the removal tool, the removal tool also works with twin cam.

I also bought the Feuling crank runout measuring plate.

I can see, you have also decided to void some warranties!

What cam you going to use?

I believe I have the Twin Cam removal tool. After some reading it looks like I can purchase the M8 install plate from George's Tool to use with my Twin Cam install tool.

As of now I'm thinking of using one of the TTS cams. They look like they are very well thought out as to where they perform in the rpm range. It will depend on if I change anything more than just the Cam. I have to do some more research to see if changing the throttle body and injectors is beneficial. No bore change, no head work, no compression change....

I am considering doing the same, once the S&S oil pump and cam plate arrive. I am going to be "in there" why not put a cam in it too.

That said, looking thru my TTS cal list, there is no starter maps for a stock bore 117" with either the tts100 or tts150 cams.

I did email TTS with inquires about recommendations yesterday, but due to the weekend and their recent move, I am not expecting a super quick response.

I will be swing by HPI sometime this week to drop off a spare TB I have and let Jimmy do his magic, and ask his opinion on injectors.

Steve Cole recommended the TTS-150 when I asked about the cam selection for the following.

Stock bore and heads.
Fullsac MX with 2.25 cores with techmat and screens.
HPI 62mm TB (SC said stock injectors would be fine, but going to 5.5 would work as well, since I have future big bore plans, 5.5 will be added.)
TMan zero loss AC.

Just thought I would share.

If you have GG's TC tools.  The mandrel and jack screw will work from the later models.  George will sell you just the plate for install.  Save about 40 bucks.
