Windshield that fits stock faring.
« on: November 22, 2010, 11:37:46 AM »

If you wish to replace windshield, check out http://www.7jurock.com/  they have lots of sizes.  I bought a 17" unit, installed in 10 minutes and is a much better.  I am 5' 9" and am able to see over the top.

Here are a couple pictures of the windshield.

To stop the wind from under the faring,  i manufactured deflectors out of stainless steel and put led strips for some extra visibility.  This is working extremely well.

The deflectors that are pictured was my first attempt (prototype) to make deflectors to redirect air from hitting the tank and up to my chest.  They worked pretty well but I couldn't stop trying to improve.   I now have my 3rd "mounted" Stainless Deflector in play.  It is similar to the one shown except it is a little over 2" longer.  This seems to work the best yet and gets better the faster you go :mango:

I am thinking about making another set for the winter which would work with fork deflectors. (there is a big gap with the stock set up)

Yes I been making different types also
Thats why I laughed when I seen yours
I said theres another nut like me out there
I like what you did
Its amazing how the wind drives right up infront of your face
I still have for ones on and have been adding to fill the gap
I believe harley is sending air up along inside of winshield to stop that negative pressure behind windshield
Going to fab some out of dryer hose to see of it works better

Harley also cut a 1/2" x 3" rounded end slot near the bottom of the shield to reduce the turbulence behind the windshield.  Pork

Pork,  are you talking about the slot the shield where the gps is mounted on the 2012?

I noticed that the new deflectors also have a scoop at the bottom which moves air up as well.   I figure that they were both designed to reduce buffeting.  That kind of tuning of the air would be difficult to do at home without a wind tunnel, which I don't have  :P

My latest design is working pretty well for not covering hand air flow.  My interest at this time is if the fork deflectors would be more comfortable in cold weather (that would cause need to make new deflector),  which unfortunately is on the way.

By what i seen I belive that air slot does help
I had made one out of plastic and duct tape
The air ran right up the winshild
it did flow out of the top end of it

Yes,  I see the slot in the windshield.  There is also a "air scoop" on the side deflectors which are directly above the turn signal in this picture.  The air goes in the scoop,  up the deflector and exits at the top next to the shield.  Of course, there is one on each side.

This is what I am interested in checking out.   I was at dealership today getting new rubber and asked about these parts.  They had a number for the deflectors but was not able to order and no price.  The shield was priced at about $225, which has the slot.
