Please post photos of your 09's with rear saddlebag guards
« on: April 19, 2012, 08:48:41 PM »

For some reason, I am thinking about adding some rear saddlebag guards to my scoot.

Could you post some pic's of them on? I tried to do a search but no luck. I know I saw a

post awhile back w/ some members adding them to their 09's. Just trying to get a idea

of how they would look.

Anyone w/ a Yellow/slate with them?

Thanks

I'm not trying to be a jerk with this question, but what exactly will they protect?

I see possibly something you might side swipe, but pretty much takes out the rider as well.  They're not low enough in the picture to protect the back bottom of the bag if you lay it down.  I guess I could see if you had your leg under the bike, but the bag itself would probably cover you there.

Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks

Dan, I would have thought the same thing.  However, my wife's 09 Street Glide has the CVO streatched bags, fender, LED tailights, etc. (so the same as an 09 SERG or a SESG in that regard).  She's dropped her bike several times and so far.......knock on wood......no damage to the bags or paint.  Now we're talking about while she's stopped or that 5 mph parking lot speed, not at any speed of significance.

Between the floorboard brackets and that rear crash bar.......we're all good. :nixweiss:

Not only does it protect the bags a bit if you lay the bike down or just simply drop it, but it can make a significant difference as to how badly your leg is damaged in the even of a slide.  The bag by itself would be torn off easily...it's just plastic held on by a couple of bolts/fasteners.  Would at least help a little in the event of a side collision with a cage.

I actually like the looks with them better than without.

JCZ, Thanks for the pictures.  They do show a slightly better angle of the bag relative to the bar.

I also see you cannot have too many mirrors on a bike....  ;D  ;D  ;D  Does she have the originals setup as wide blind spot mirrors and the two add-ons as regular mirrors?

Dan, I seconds JZ's comments.  I've seen a couple of baggers dropped and to my amazement no damage.  That's when several years ago I sacrificed the looks for the peace of mind that if I was to drop it, it will protect some.  Now if I go down will on the road, all bets are off.  Just my dos centavos.  Let's Roll

This, as usual, is a helpful topic.  do you think it is better to get the comfort ones or just stay with the full set. I am asking because I want to get these too but don't want my BSR to be uncomfy if the full set somehow makes it more uncomfortable due to bar hitting her leg.  Thanks

On my previous 08 RG my BSR had to buy higher length boots to cover the back of her legs because the regular guards bothered the back of them, on my 09, my choice would be putting the lower profile guards on. JMHO

I wish they had them stock on a SERG.  My foot slipped on the wet garage floor, the day I brought it home.  And when I went to lift it up there was no place to grab except the handlebars.  I had to get my neighbor help pick it up, only slightly embarrassing.  I might just have to check the attic and see if my old (03 RG) bars will work.
