Well as I stated in another thread I was seriously contemplating the switch from a batwing to a sharknose especially after seeing in person the color and trim offerings for 2018 on my long anticipated SESG upgrade. After seeing the badazz new offerings of the new 2018 CVO Roadglides, I read a lot of info. on this site as I usually do when researching all things Harley. Since the motivation was there I called and arranged for a test ride on a 2018 Road Glide Special (no CVOs in the neighborhood yet) yesterday. This was also my first time on a M8 but not my first Road Glide. I had ridden a 2006 in the past. When I showed up we put the windsplitter windshield on it and off I went. I really liked the bike, a lot, except for some of the things that all the new bikes lack, in this case the power difference was huge (my 2011 SESG has a 113 kit that runs pretty strong), no rider back rest or highway pegs and the seat wasn't much to write home about, but I knew about all of this going in so no surprises there. After a nice long ride on some beautiful twisties up Chuckanut Dr. (google it) and the ride back On I-5 at speeds from 60 to about 90 I was sold on the Road Glide. So I rolled back in to the dealership with the low fuel light on and asked my good buddy Jeff what he had coming in and when. He said he had a CVO Road Glide FLTRXSE Black Earth & Vivid Black due in sometime in November. We talked numbers for a few minutes, shook hands, I left a deposit and headed out to enjoy the rest of the day on my trusty SESG.

welcome to the Sharks! Good luck with your purchase. :2vrolijk_21:

good deal :2vrolijk_21: waiting to hear your thoughts after you get some miles on the new RG .... shark vs bat

Welcome to shark club.

Great choice!! I really believe that once you go shark. It's really hard to go back. . Even though there was no cvo rg in 17. Some bought street glides. . They didn't want to wait but maybe wanted the new motor. I think some might be sorry they didn't wait. I'm not going back. That I will say. . Congrats on the new ride. Engoy. . Stuart.
-
Good choice! You will not be disappointed!
-
Rouge'lides are definitely addictive. I've been waiting on H-D to stir me with a color/feature combo since selling the '09 SE Electric Orange in '13.
-
Thanks everyone, I'm really looking forward to the new machine. I keep checking out this video that I found online which also helped a lot in my decision making process.

Great Choice. I'm a huge road glide fan, I'm on my 4th one, put over 45K on each of the last ones.

I bought my First Street Glide in 17, the CVO. Not a bad bike, but I really wanted a road glide, and was missing one. So I got the First CVO Road Glide Smoky Mountain had. I was first in line. I put 20,526 on the Street glide in 11 months.
So glad to be back on a road glide, taking it in for the 1K service today, I have only been on land for 6 days of my owner ship of the bike.

congrats on joining the shark club. we have cookies :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks Dave I appreciate your input. Since you and others have so much experience with these bikes I was wondering if you could share your particular windshield experience? I was kinda leaning towards Freedom Shields but it looks like you are running a Klockwerks??
I'm also going to move the passenger footpegs up front for highway pegs and want to buy the Defiance boards for my BSR.

I am running the Klock Werks 14 Sport Flair. I'm 6'1" and works pretty good. Still get a bit of wind and wind noise, but it looks real good. I have the Klock Werks pro tour 12" on order. Its actually 1 inch taller than the one I have and a little wider. I think the will get rid of all wind. Going to test.
I am ok with the 14 Sport flair, and run it for over 45K miles.
-
Looking forward to your report Dave. Thanks for your input!
-
Also looking fwd to your thoughts on the 12....

Also looking fwd to your thoughts on the 12....
Just put it on the bike, have not rode with it yet. Klock says the top edge is 1" higher than the 14 Sport flair from top of fairing. Looks taller than that. It is quite a bit wider and I think that will reduce wind noise.
Doesn't look quite as sporty as the sport flair, but I think it still looks pretty good.
-
Well the parts are rolling in but still nothing to install them on until next month sometime. :-\ I've received my windshield, riders backrest, highway peg mounts for the crash bars, matching floorboards for my BSR, 4 point docking hardware, Kuryakyn curved license plate frame and mount, (which need to go to powdercoat) and the lower triple tree wind diffuser.
Any updates from anyone else? gpopvet? Nice bars Dave. I'll eventually be putting another set on the new bike. Mike? Anything new to share?
What pipes and tuner are you guys thinking about?
Thanks again everyone for all of your input, especially Mike & Dave
Lets see those mods!!
-
Fullsac cores in the factory mufflers is the most popular choice on this site. You have three size baffles to choose from 1.75, 2.00 and 2.25. They also performed better than most slip-ons for a fraction of the cost. I have the Fullsac 2.25 on my bike did on my last five CVO's and are on my CVO King.
Fullsac also makes head pipes that go under the stock heat shields. I have the Fullsac MX head pipe at home waiting for me to install and then tune the bike. I'm offshore working for the next 21 days.
I have run his head pipe on my previous CVO's.
I use the TTS tuner as do many on here.
-
That is my plan as well Dave. I have Steve's X pipe "B" and TTS and originally had the 2.25 cores/baffles since 2011 then switched to a set of Crusher slip ons which really work well with my current 113 build but are not available (except for the Mavericks) for the M8s. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Thanks

I recently found out that instead of a November delivery my new bike isn't slated to leave the plant until December 1st. :-\ So I guess I get to live vicariously through you guys and your upgrades and experiences with your new 18s for at least another month.
Thanks for sharing!

Same here....from November to shipped December 15. I've been bike-less since September 5.

I do not think I could handle being bike less for a month let alone 3 months or more.

If I go 2weeks without riding I get very grumpy. When my son was playing college football I would jump on a plane every Friday and go wherever he was playing (he played for Central Missouri outside KC) and come back Sunday night which would keep me off a bike for the entire season. Of course I loved watching him play and like any dad was crazy proud of him but as I was chasing him all over the midwest in a rental car and a bike would pass me it would kill me..

At least it's not the summer months. I'd be jonesing major if I we're bikeless during my riding season!

...waited 8 years (since the electric orange '09) for Harley to peg the meter with the right shark color/features combo (for me)..another 5-6 weeks is a piece of cake. Took me all of a couple hours to switch from disliking "industrial" gray to ordering one. First non metal flake CVO.
Sure enjoying the mod pics and pm info from some of you guys.

There is a very slight amount of metal flake in the Gunship and looks much better when you see it in person.
What part of the country are you in? I'm about 30 miles north of Seattle but still get to ride a little here and there this time of year weather permitting.

I had the Silver/Titanium 09 and loved it, but to me the best color ever on the CVO Road Glide was the White Gold and black skunk. Never had a bike that got more complements than my Skunk. Only bike I got sick to the stomach when I traded it.
When I saw the Dealer show live video feed, I could not believe they even considered the Gunship Gray a CVO. Said only fool would spend 41K on that bike.
Then I saw them unload it from the truck, in the bright sun and fell in love with the Gunship Gray. I have also seen the dark earth and vivid black, which is sharp in the sun but I do not like it as well.
I am shock at the number of people that just love this bike and color. Its getting almost as many complements as my skunk did.

Some nice sharks in this thread

Ample riding days in North Central Texas. It's a quick jump to SE Oklahoma & on in to Arkansas. Colorado and New Mexico are my favorites though.
I haven't seen gunship live yet...pleased to hear it has a tad of spark in the paint.
-
Well I just checked in with my dealer to see if he had an update for me on my new Shark's delivery date and it looks like it payed off. Delivery is expected in 2 weeks!! Now I'm getting excited. My current bike got there within one week of this one back in 2010. So it goes back to it's originating dealer almost 7 years to the day.
The countdown is on!
-
My new Road Glide got here a week early!!! Picked it up today and now I'm stuck at work till 9pm PST. It rides awesome, I can't wait to get home tonight and ad some goodies to it. :drummer:
I must say it seems much more responsive bone stock than my 2011 did with the 110 tc and sounds better stock as well, but of course all of that will change with time (and money).
I'll get some pic's out within the next couple of days. We had a little break in the weather today fortunately but it looks like its back to the wet stuff tomorrow. :-\

Congratulations on getting your new bike. We need pictures.
The M8 117 is definitely more responsive and has more torque lower in the RPM range then the 110. I had several 110 bikes. This 117 bone stock is as strong if not stronger than the 110 with a head pipe, mufflers and tune.

Hi everyone, it's still too ugly weather wise here to get any decent photos but here's one from inside my garage. I've added the Freedom Shields 15" Sport Touring windshield, CVO riders backrest, matching Defiance pass footboards, moved passenger pegs up front for highway pegs, 4 point docking hardware, triple tree air deflector, DC plug for Gerbing heated gear, removed the fugly reflectors, took off the mid frame heat deflectors and of coarse transferred my anti gremlin bell for good luck.
It just stopped raining so I'll go out for a ride this afternoon and enjoy today's high temperature. A balmy 43 degrees!
-
One fresh off the truck, pre PDI
-
Nice, now get out there and enjoy it. :2vrolijk_21:

One fresh off the truck, pre PDI
Been almost six hours since that ^ post. Got it broke in yet 8) ?
-
Looking nice, now how about a ride report? Why did you remove the mid frame heat deflectors?
-
Hi guys, as much as I wanted to get out there for a ride yesterday it just kept raining off and on. Finally about 4:30 I was able to go for a short ride. Although I'm still getting things dialed in I love this bike. When I ran out of daylight on my way back I was disappointed to find that the headlights didn't work worth a damn. They needed to be adjusted waaay up. When I returned home my Seahawks game was just starting on Monday Night Football so I waited until this morning to address the issue. I must have turned the adjustment bolt a couple of hundred times (turning righty tighty) until it would adjust no more. The bolt kept turning but nothing was happening and the lights appeared to need to come up another 10" or so!?!
Anyway I got out today for a real nice 150 mile ride.
-
I took the ferry over to Whidbey Isl.
-
Then we stopped for lunch at the world famous Toby's Tavern in Coupeville Wa. on Whidbey Isl. They have the best seafood and prepare mussels all kinds of different ways.
-
Ah hell maybe one of you moderators can fix that for me.
-
So from Toby's we headed north up Whidbey toward the Deception Pass Bridge which connects the island to the mainland all the while getting use to the new CVO. Took some twisties and dealt with good old normal traffic while riding to the next destination. I must say going over bridges that throw a bit of wind your way the bike handled every aspect just friggin awesome. Because the fairings are so different between the bat and shark and the shark fairing being physically lower at the top it gives the feeling that you are sitting more on the bike than in the bike compared to my Street Glide. Obviously that is not the case since the frames are the same but that was one of my first impressions.
As stated by someone else in another thread I will need to watch my speed as it does feel like I'm going slower than I am because of the wind bubble this thing creates! It's awesome.
-
Another shot of Toby's
-
The final stop of the day was at one my favorite local burger joints with real ice cream shakes called Burger Master, they are a small chain of drive in's up here in the NW. I took this shot of the menu through my windshield. It's one of those car hop drive in's. Can you see the temperature on my dash? The 44 degrees was under their heat lamps. :'( Dang, need this one fixed too.

Dealer should have adjusted that during PDI. Every road glide I have ever bought has had the headlights adjusted low. Always have to take them back for dealer to adjust. I could but its there job.

Sorry Dave I missed this initially. I really don't like the looks of them and I really like the open look of the engine with those cool new heads and rocker boxes exposed. I never had them on my 2011 which supposedly ran way hotter than these M8's so I just figured I would remove them. I actually cheated and asked the dealer not to install them during the PDI process.
As for the headlights I'll head up to the dealer this week, it also appears that they forgot to plug in my radio antenna to the head unit. I know that these hidden antennas are not the best but I have zero reception.

I do agree on the look of the heads. I left mine on mainly as the left one is where I mount the plug for my Heated gear.
-
Yeah, I really like the Idea of being able to plug the gear in with one hand. I need to work on that.
-
Yeah, I really like the Idea of being able to plug the gear in with one hand. I need to work on that.
Here is my set up for one handed plug in. Barley noticeable, open the black cover and plug in.
-
So I made it back into the dealer to have them attend to my 2 issues that I mentioned. As soon as they pulled the fairing apart the GM came out of the service department and said "you were right" the antenna was never plugged in from the factory. The antenna lead still had original shrink wrap on the plug so they removed it, plugged it in and what do ya know? It works as designed!
Then upon investigating my headlight adjustment issue they said that the adjuster was stripped?!? So they adjusted it manually and ordered a new headlight assembly.
Oh well it sure rides nice, and a lot better vision at night! lol
-
Quality control was lacking when your bike was built. Glad they got it fixed for you.
My 17 came with the old style saddlebag fastener on the frame and the screws fasteners in the bag. They do not work at all well together. Caught it as soon as I got home.
-
Speaking of saddlebags, I was riding with my buddy the other day on the freeway Dave, when I looked over and noticed his left saddlebag barely hanging on to his 2012 SESG by the speaker wires. I pulled him over and nothing was broken so he reattached it and off we went.
Hopefully there will be no more oops the factory didn't assemble it correctly moments from here on out. Although we all seem to have one of these stories don't we? lol
-
Finally installed my Kury plate frame after having it powder coated.
-
Another, the trim piece is harley batwing fairing trim. It has adhesive built in and keeps the frame from rubbing on the paint. Very clean look.
-
Plate frame looks good.
-
That plate frame looks great! Was it an easy install. Thanks
-
Kury #3144 frame has to be powder coated (only comes in chrome). Bottom bolts are dummies. You need to drill 2 holes in your fender for the top 2 bolts. Plugs right in though.
-
Looks clean...nice job.
-
Thanks everyone, I did the same thing on my 2011 SESG back in January of 11. It also allows the month and year stickers to be seen and have proper placement.
Fullsac exhaust and TTS tuner are next. I am definitely an advocate of all of Steve's hard work, vision and insight to this forum.
-

That is why I use the Paul Yaffe Stealth III frame. I do not have to drill my fender.
Fullsac MX head pipe is a simple installation and lets you keep your factory heat shields. It works well and is an increase in power.
-
The Yaffe is a great alternative but the holes that need to be drilled will never be seen and for Washington and a whole lot of other states MC plates the Kury frame allows the month and year stickers to be seen and have proper and legal placement.

I am sort of fighting the same issue. I went with the custom dynamics solution. I didn't go with the Yaffe Stealth License Frame because I think it's just butt ugly and too expensive. If it had a square hole rather than that oval it might suit me better.

Everybody has there own opinions which is why there are options. I have used the Yaffe on my 12, 13, 17 and now my 18. I have never had an issue and ride my bikes all over the country. You can see the month and year.
For a while there was on two options seems there are more now. The one Rayson is using looks very nice. I just can't bring my self to drill holes in painted parts.
-
Dave, in a lot of states like Washington the tab placement on the plate is mandatory. On the Washington plate for example the month tag MUST be on the far right of the lic. plate numbers/letters. The year tab MUST be at the top right like in the picture therefore the Yaffe plate frame just will not work for some state applications because of the oval shaped frame.
See the attached example;
-
I did say your plate frame looks good, I like it. I just will not drill holes.
I understand what you are saying. In TN the stickers are to be on the lower left Month and the lower right Year and tag number. Mine are move in very slightly.
As long as the officer can read it they will not hassle you. I have been riding with a Yaffe plate frame since Fall of 2011. I have rode in almost every state, all of them west of the Mississippi River except Alaska.
-
I finally gave the new ride the full Fullsac and TTS treatment!! Now just waiting on the weather to check it out.
-
Here is a photo of my new bike from last Monday. It was the nicest day of the year here so far with record breaking temperatures over 70! I also made it over the 2000 mile mark which isn't bad considering my work schedule and the crap weather we've had here since I picked up my new ride at the end of November.
Yay daylight saving time and come on Spring!!

Monkey Bars and oil cooler fan have been installed. I received my new engine guard and fairing support brackets today and I'm still awaiting the arrival of my Vivid Black fairing lowers. :2vrolijk_21:

Did you order just the fan or the fan kit?
I ask as I recall someone posting the part number for just the fan. I haven't done enough research to know what all I need.

The original part # for the "fan only" that Jerry found for us awhile back is now the part# for the fan kit Mike.
Check out this thread from reply #25.

When I traded my 2011 SESG in for my new 2018 SERG I kept my tour pak. The Black Diamond color is fairly close for as seldom as I use it. So at least for now with the other (necessary) upgrades I've done, and plan to do, it makes $en$e to utilize the one that I have. With that said, there is a clearance issue for the saddlebag lids on the new Rushmore bikes to be able to use the non Rushmore Tour Paks. My fix for the problem was to use the black shiny rubberised material from a big rig mudflap found at any truckstop. I happened to have a pair that I bought new to use on top of my work bench at home. The attachment end of the mudflap in this case is about 2' across and about 2" wide at the top so I cut that piece off and then cut it in half lengthwise to give me 2) 12" x 2" x 5/16ish" spacers. These placed between the tour pak and quick release rack (front to back) make for a good solid mount and vibration isolators and most importantly give the spacing for the lids that is needed.

I finally installed the fairing lowers that Harley still says can't be done!!

Sweet ride! Adding the “old” crashbar vs the newer/narrower bar, will you lose any lean angle?

No, floorboards will touch way before the engine guards.

Thar is very expensive as Harley does not sell the gunship lowers as a Kit. You have to buy everything piece by piece. I priced it out last winter. Just over 1800 dollars.
-
Did kind of a cool update on my personalized license plate. I had the original for around 30 years on several different bikes. Here's the original;
-
And here is the new one;
-
Upgraded my A/C today. I really like the looks of the Heavy Breather that is exclusive to the 2019 RGs. The performance upgrade will be awesome also.
-
^^^looks good, especially with your color combo.
-
Thank you, lower fairing speaker setup is next. Come on Santa!!
-
Added a matching Tour Pack over a year ago and forgot to post a pic. Old news now but here ya go....
-
And another....
-
One more....
-
Also, I recently did my 15K service and all levels were good and no fluid transfer was noted. I love this bike!!
-
Ordered a Corbin Classic Solo with passenger pillion and riders oval backrest on July 5th. The stock seat was the best stock Harley seat I had ever experienced until I hit about 17k and then I seemed to need more frequent stops to keep monkey butt at bay. I've owned several seats including 4 Danny Grays so I'm anxious to try out my first Corbin, I've heard they are amazing.
Just received word from FedEx that my seat will be here tomorrow! :bananarock:
-
I love mine!! (http://)
-
That's a great looking seat on a great looking bike, did it take much to break it in? How is your bsr with it?

Thanks, Not broken in yet, but wife and I are enjoying it. I think Corbin states that it takes at least 1K miles to break in. I have the matching sissy bar pad as well. Hope you enjoy yours.

Thanks for the input.
On another note, Fedex s**t the bed on this one! I had my Corbin shipped to my business for Saturday delivery since a signature was required and I didn't want that big ol box left on my front porch anyway as I had a gig at a local winery that day. So I'm checking the status on my phone on Saturday and all of a sudden it shows pkg. undeliverable, no one home or business closed. I thought are you kidding me? We receive shipments from ALL of the couriers including Fedex several times a day AND we opened at 7AM! Someone obviously decided they had better things to do that day than their job I guess. Got on the phone immediately and spoke with the fine folks at customer service in Guatemala and I'm still working to resolve the issue.
-
Well, Fedex got my seat delivered this morning after much bitching and complaining with no explanation or apologies, so time now to check it out!
-
Went for a short jaunt to try out my seat and here are a couple of my initial observations;
Kinda like a new pair of dress shoes. I can tell the quality and looks are there but it will take some breaking in as everyone says.
Ergonomically it sets you back and up maybe an inch over my stock 18 SERG and fits ME really well. They say it will settle and sit a little lower after a bit.
Love the backrest, fits me really well and is very comfortable.
So we'll see how it breaks in, but for now I have to say, it's very promising.
-

So we'll see how it brakes in but for now I will have to say it's very promising.
Love those Corbin seats. Sure looks great on the bike...well done sir.

Went for a short jaunt to try out my seat and here are a couple of my initial observations;
Kinda like a new pair of dress shoes. I can tell the quality and looks are there but it will take some breaking in as everyone says.

Looks very good on the bike.
I may be taking mine off my road king and moving it to the Red Pepper. Main reason is the stock seat with 13,300 miles on the bike looks like it has over 50K miles on it. It shows tons of wear.
My stock CVO King seat with 21K miles on it shows zero wear. My corbin solo is 7 years old, has just over 100,000 miles on it and shows little wear, less than my 19 seat for sure.
