Title: Going to sell my stock 110 motor, whats it worth?
Post by: SDCVO on July 07, 2013, 01:33:12 AM
Just ordered a 120R yesterday and will be selling my stock 110 with 12000 miles (currently at 11500 but figure I will put at least another 500 on before the new motor comes in) when it comes in. I don't know what to sell it for but know the people out here will..
Not sure how long it will take to get the new one but they think around a month.

I had to read this post 3 times before I finally got it. I just couldn't get past "Just order a 120r yesterday...." :2vrolijk_21:

Dealer is telling me to list it on E Bay and to set the "reserve" at $3750 but think it may bring $4000. Agree or not?

Probably depends on how much the potential buyer actually knows about CVO110's. ;)

For reference, a brand new one in a crate from H-D has a MSRP of $5195.  A kit to turn a TC96/103 into a 110 runs around $1675 plus labor.

If you don't sell it, they make great boat anchors.  :drink:

New with warranty is 4156 with 20% off.

Shipping is around $250 freight.

I would take anything north of 2,000

Jerry makes a very valid point. :2vrolijk_21:
Me thinks that your dealer is way off base with those numbers.
The $2000.00 dollar figure is much more realistic, and truth be known, that might be pushing it some.

While I believe the true market value may be less, I've seen some pretty strange things on ebay.  On the other hand, I've got some exceptional steals I mean "deals" on ebay.....the rear fender and streatched bags, LED tailights, etc. off of an 09 SERG for $1200.......also a set of 09 CVO Chrome Blade wheels with tires and ABS bearings for $1,000.

You just never know.  You might do as the dealer suggested, if you're not in a hurry......some people have more money than brains and they want what they want right now!  Look at the rediculous mark up that some dealerships get on their stock new bikes.

And, if worse comes to worse and you're just not willing to take as little as $2k for the motor......just keep it for a back up motor.  There's value in that as well. :2vrolijk_21:

Definitely not worth selling for 2G. Will see.Probably not such a bad thing to hold on to it and maybe stick the 120 in the next bike... I will give it a shot and see what happens when I get the new one in. Thanks all!

I believe if you look around through different threads that many other members have installed these engines in.  There were other items they either had to or realized later that they also needed to have upgraded with the engine.  I may be be mistaken but I don't think it was a just remove the 110 and put in the 120.   If it was me I would check with several of the members that have put the 120 engine in and see what problems they ran into.  What they would do different the next time.  Most important of all what all is needed to be done just to do this install.

I tried doing a search on this but my Internet is not working very well tonight do to weather.

I would also check into throttle bodies, injector sizes,  and if there is a difference with throttle bodies if the air cleaner that you are using now will work on the one they suggest.

Bikerboy53 and sadambar each have 120 engines as well.  They would be someone I would send a pm to and ask them what all they had to do extra just to install the engine.  Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Todd, I have been researching it since I got the bike and am fully aware (i think) of what im getting into. I get that the expense just "starts" with the motor which is why I was going to sell the 110 to help cover all that. Its good that I did this thread so I at least know what to expect as far as whats realistic for it. At least now I am fully "eyes wide open"... Now I just have to figure out whether its worth it or not to let the 110 go for that price or is it smarter to "crate" it for when (or if) I cant live without the new RG in 2015.

There will always be something bigger and better a couple of years from now.  When they're making the 130R, that you just "gotta have" that boring ol' 110 will only bring a grand.  It's worth as much as it's ever going to be today.  Sell it for what you can get now, send the SERGC down the road with the 120R in it and move on to the next biggest, baddest thing whenever you're moved to do so.

Interestingly, I just sold my stock TB, 255 cams, cam plate and oil pump on eBay for more than $400.  Maybe it's worth more parted out? :nixweiss:

Probably great advice. I guess i just have to get my head around whats its worth. "It is what it is" but I will give it a go to see what i end up getting.

Considering the fine reliability record of Harley lately ??? , having a backup motor isn't a bad idea.  In fact, having a backup motorcycle wouldn't be a bad idea.  Just sayin'.

Agree with most of whats been said except the 'Boat Anchor'. If you have anything larger than a 16' Jon Boat.....you will need 2 ofum.

Personally I wouldn't sell it! As others have already stated, keep it in case the 120R ever goes down...

Not sure how hard it would be to find a used bike with a bad engine for sale that you could put it in.  Then you could do like Jerry said and have two bikes.   Then you could make a round the town bike with some wild gearing in it if that's what your into as well.  Just depends on what you could find.  To bad they wouldn't bolt in a sportster that might be something to see.

Friend just bought a complete 110A motor with 12.5 K off chopped baggers for $1100

The s&s crates and 120R are killing the used market it appears

Well I'm going to keep mine. one day the pickers may find it and since it is an 07 it will be a rare find. HAHA. Seems funny used 110 only worth a couple grand but I spent almost 5k trying to make it better. I should have known you can't polish a turd.

I think you should keep the stock motor and plug it back in when you are done with the bike.  You will get a better sale price for your bike with stock motor, IMHO.   You can always re-sell the 120 later or reuse it.

Speaking from one who's been redoing his engine lately and searching ebay constantly for engine parts over the past 2 to 3 months (feels like forever, especially when everyone rides their HDs past my house heading into the mountains)...sorry about that, ranting over now. On ebay it seems as if you part out your old engine you can probably make enough to purchase a new one. But also I have went into the dark section of the garage and pulled out my old dusty and dirty sportster and rode it some while my 05 Electraglide CVO has been down...but it is definately not the same. Good Luck in your choice.

Well i'll be Dam--- but it sold in 1 day. Listed it on Ebay yesterday and a acquaintance that knows how "nuts" i am about my bike reached out and offered me $200 less then it was listed for so we pulled the listing (a buddy of mine was selling it for me) and by the time I would have paid Ebay and PayPal fees I would have netted less then that even if someone paid the asking price. Very lucky..
Here was the listing:
