Title: 03 Screaming Eagle Road King questions
Post by: springer 03 on September 06, 2008, 11:14:37 AM
I have a chance to buy an 03 with 14000 miles. Is there anything I should know or look for before pulling the trigger on this? I have ridden on it and the 103 inch motor pulls hard. Isn't there supposed to be liners in the bags?

One thing of concern that comes to mind on that motor is the Cam Chain Tensioners. They have been known to wear and discard chunks of material that have found there way into the oil pump to do damage. There is varying different mileages where these have gone bad so it's hard to tell when/if they will go. Many that have these motors have switched to gear drive cams to eliminate this problem.

The bike came stock from the factory w/liners for the saddlebags, a CVO (indoor) cover, and a CVO Gold (brass) Key.

I have a 2003 100th aniversary SERK and have had zero problems so far. As for the bag liners and gold cvo key, they were not included. They are however available as options, the bag liners are inexpensive so that shouldn't be an issue. The key I think is about $ 80 bucks. The bike did come with an awesome cvo cover. I hope this helps.

I thought that bag liners, CVO cover, tool kit and the infamous brass key were standard.  They were on 08's.

My 03 came with saddle bag bags ???, you know those nylon removable zippered bags with handles., and the cover but the key was a option in 03. I have had no problems with the cam tensioners hope that helps.

Sorry to be a dick, but you are totally wrong on the issue of the key. The 2003 100th Anniversary Screamin Eagle Road Kings came with a key standard as have all CVO's since. I've owned two of these great machines and got keys with both.

be a dick all you want - Dad's didn't so you cannot say that ALL of them came with it.  He and I discussed it before he died.

It was purchased at Black Hills HD...and he didn't get bag liners either.

Various covers laser cut with the 100th anny logo, "cloisone" emblem gee gaws and gee dunk chromed all up.

It was a standard black on black road king with the "gold key"package installed, yup it was.

The gold key was offered to me.  I think for 80.00 or 100.00 bucks. I guess I thought I spent enough on the bike they could stick the gold key up there a$$. But definitely not included at the sale of my bike.
