Battery testing off starter bolt and ground
« on: December 27, 2020, 12:30:46 PM »

Hello all,

Trying to test my battery during some down time with a midtronics bt200 battery tester.

Is testing off the starter bolt and ground just as good as pos and neg battery terminals?

Battery is only 3 yo and always on a trickle charge and tester says 220 cca.

Starts fine, probably on borrowed time, doesn't get reslly cold here in central texas.

Cheers!

The only reason it would make any difference which end of the battery cable you were testing from would be if  the cable at the battery end had a badly corroded connection or a bad crimp.  So, yes, it's possible it would make a difference but it's not likely.  And if you've regularly cleaned/checked cable connections as we all should be anyway you'd know if you were good to go or not.
