Help wanted Zumo
« on: September 26, 2007, 09:53:31 AM »

Being a simple minded sort of person I have just connected my new "Hoppe Faring" to ny SERK3 and would like to know how you guys have attached the Zumo 550.  I have a 12v socket on the faring and a jackpoint.  Am I correct in saying I ONLY need to bolt the 550 to the handlebar, connect it to the 12v and run it through the jackpoint.  Will the sound then run through the speaker/radio? or have I missed something.

You will have to have an "Aux" in input on your radio in order to hear voice commands from the Zumo. The Zumo will have a 3.5mm stereo output jack on the cradle, and that is where you will plug in a patch cord/cable to connect to your radio "Aux" input. When you use the cradle that is specifically made for the car there is a speaker in the cradle.

There is a comprehensive Zumo installation thread here that should be able to help you and answer a lot of your questions: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=226.0

What do you do when the vehicle doesn't have a stereo? Example, my quad.

Doesn't the AUX cut the rest of the radio out?

Mike,
I'm not sure I'm understanding your question. When the radio is in the "Aux" position on those radios that have it then nothing else is playing (radio/CD/Etc.) at that time. When in that position I'm listening to MP3's that I've stored in the Zumo. For those that have the XM capabilities w/their Zumo then they would be able to select XM in the Zumo and play that thru the radio while in the "Aux" position.

If the vehicle doesn't have a stereo (radio) at all and you have the motorcycle mount on it then you will not get any audible sounds from the Zumo (no internal speaker). I have heard of people using the Auto mount that comes w/the Zumo on their bikes (which has a speaker), but I would be concerned about that because it's not watertight.
