Scratch on Intake Valve Guide Bullet End
« on: October 05, 2014, 05:35:13 PM »

Two years ago when the dealer rebuilt my motor under ESP with the T-Man CVO Street Performer Kit, I noticed a scratch on the bullet end of the front intake valve guide.  I didn't see it until after the heads and rocker boxes where already installed.  When I questioned the builder about it, I was told that it was nothing to worry about, only cosmetic.

I just ran an endoscope/borescope down the throttlebody to have a look and take some pictures of it.

Is this ok or should I pull the heads and ship them to T-MAN to have the guide replaced?

You can buy digital endoscopes on eBay. A good one is about $30.00, and when connected to your laptop, can take still shots or video and record it.

Thanks.  That's what I was hoping to hear.  This has been stuck in the back of my head since it was built.  I just removed the rocker boxes to replace the comp releases and install rollers and didn't want to put it back together if this was something I needed to be concerned about.

Ain't nothing more than a mark(scratch) that was made with a file to deburr the guide after it was shortened. ::)
Won't hurt a thing.

Around 6K miles.  The heads are clean.  I found some mild carbon build up on top of the pistons.  I assume this is from burning oil from the breathers.  Another mod project to tackle this winter....

Pretty good picture for a cheap cam

I've got two different el cheapo models.

These pictures were taken with a 8.5mm diameter AGPtek HD 720P 2.0MP USB Endoscope http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0U01R38863

Its a little clumsy taking pictures since you have to click a button in the app on the laptop to snap it.

I also have a 7mm diameter SuperEyes USB Endoscope http://www.supereyes.cc/en/n013j-7mm-usb-waterproof-digital-endoscope-147.html

It has a button on the wand that allows you to easily take a snapshot.  However its picture quality is not as good as the AGPtek.

I really want an articulating borescope with adjustable focus (similar to what we use to inspect turbine engines).  Until then these will have to do.

Yeah, I was in an automobile parts store on Friday getting doom parts.  They had one for about $125 with built in monitor and I started thinking, which is usually dangerous, that that might be a really cool tool.  So while I waited I looked the up online and found some as cheap as $25,  but I was somewhat afraid they would not have a very good image.  Your images are great!   Can you put it in the spark plug hole and see the inside of you heads?

I have the model under this one and paid maybe 90 bucks a few years ago. It still works I have used it countless times. Even on a hot engine which I think there is a caution about that .  Super handy tool ..

The real problem with that tool(we have had a Snap-On for many years)is that it makes an insect, look like a rhinoceros........

Chris,
Actually VERY busy here, and much more work coming in from everywhere.
My 21 yr old son and I had about 4 hrs in the trees yesterday afternoon.
Plenty-o-deer but I never had any shot presented, as a button buck twin, was being a class-clown distracting this one nice buck, running and bouncing around, my son passed on a couple smaller ones, from a real hot stand we have on the back side of a secluded beaver pond/swamp, but the cameras are telling us to be patient......just a matter of time now. :)

Need some acorns? We already have picked up two 5 gallon buckets worth.

One of my riding buddies usually comes and gets them - but there has not been one piece of venison that has crossed my threshold  - so he will be out of the loop soon  :P

Plenty of beechnuts, apples, soy beans, corn, this years planted alfalfa.
They eat well where we hunt.
