Saddlebag difficult to latch?
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:51:55 AM »

I'm sure we've all experienced it once or twice, and maybe someone else has already brought this to everyone's attention. But a few times recently I've had a hard time latching one of my saddlebag lids, so I took it off the bike to look into the problem. I thought it was going to be a problem with the latch or the catches or something of that nature.

Luckily, it was none of those things and nothing had to be replaced. It was actually a pretty simple problem. Apparently, it's pretty easy for the black, cloth tether to fold under itself and get hung up in between the lid and the bag. This causes the problem because then there's too much distance between the bag and the lid. Pretty simple... so simple, you kinda feel stupid for not realizing it earlier. Several times when this had happened, I looked at the latches, the catches, the gasket, etc. I finally realized it when I had the bag off the bike, upside down, and tried to latch it. That's when I noticed just a little bit of the cloth sticking out.

Hope this helps. :xyxthumbs:

Had the same problem on the boy's R.K. The service guy said he sees it about once a week. Just make sure the cloth isn't folded into the latch. Dooh!

Yeah, I figured I couldn't be the only one with that. I took my knife with (the belt clip) and slid it on the inboard side of the cloth. Adds just enough weight, so that when I close the lid, the knife weights the cloth down, and away from the hinge.

Fishing line weights, the little ones that look like foot balls.
With a slit through the lenth of them, witch can be crimped
on to the fold of the cloth. And there low profile  :2vrolijk_21:
