2007 Road King CVO and the Touring Link
« on: April 06, 2016, 03:14:57 PM »

I'm looking to buy my first HD, I've had 80's Honda Sabre and Magna. I've ridden my sons '05 softail delux. I'm looking at a '11 Road King (a 103 & a 96), a '07 Road King CVO 110 and a '07 Road King 96. Mainly I'd like to know if the '11 is that huge of an upgrade from the '07 CVO. I know the '11 compared to the plain '07 is the new frame difference but I'd like to know the difference between the '11 and the '07 CVO. When I tried looking up a Progressive Link for the 2007 RK CVO and it said not available. Why? Does the 07 CVO ride better than the regular 07? Does the 07 CVO ride comparable to the '11RK?

I was corrected in my search I found out the rear link is a Touring Link and that they make one for the '07 CVO.

2007 was the first year of the 110" and there were many problems.  If they have not been addressed then you might have a time bomb on your hands.  A few of the issues you need to make sure were addressed:

- Recall for base cylinder oil leak
- stock compensator was junk.  Need latest SE version
- lifters won't hold up.  Should be changed to S&S or something similar
- guide in the head have known to be weak.  Consider changing them out of having the heads done.  Good time to consider increasing compression and proper cam for your style of riding
- Yes this is the old frame (2007 CVO).  Frame stabilizer is helpful.  Suspension front and rear are not great and could use an upgrade

The new frame came in 09 along with a gearing change as in two teeth difference on the rear belt sprocket. I believe the 08's got Brembo brakes as well. The new frame did NOT get rid of the high speed wobble. Seems some have it and some don't. I have never experienced the wobble on my 07. And just to be clear they all have their own issues including 2016's. Although there are some in each year that have been trouble free. The bottom line is if you throw enough $$$ at any of them you can buy a certain amount of reliability.
