handlebar change on '02 flhrsei
« on: September 26, 2005, 09:12:26 PM »

   Hi,
Has anyone changed the handlebars on their 2002 flhrsei?  The bar and clamp are        1 1/4",   and  no one makes a handlebar that will fit this clamp,  All I can find are bars with 1" clamp area.  Do I just change the clamp to a 1",  or is there more to this mod than meets the eye (ie. are there other parts to change as well)? .  I'm looking to go to a set of mini apes.  Thanks for your help.

I changed them on my buddies R.K. Classic and the "fat" bars were still only one inch at the clamp and one and a quarter after that. Did you check  Wild One "Chubby" bars?

depending on what your intentions are you can easily change the risers and top clamps to 1"

I'll change the risers/clamp to a 1",  and go with a set of wild1 chubby 8.5" apes.  I'm hoping everything else buttons up easily.    thanks for the info and pics

I'll will use the one piece clamp.
thanks for the advice.  Will anything else have to be changed?  The cables look like they'll work with the 8.5" apes. I see you went with the the 10" bars.  Did the stock  cables work with the that size bar?
If there is something I'm missing any help would be appreciated.   I already have the passing lamp /signal setup.
Your bike looks great.  Do you find it comfortable during the long haul?  It looks like it would be.

everything was long enough, but the clucth cable will have no slack with the forks turned all the way to the right, did change the path of the throttle cables slighly as well but i did not have to change any cables. it is much more comfortable, i dont feel hunched over. but no that my back and neck feel better i notice how uncomfortable the stock seat is. that will get changed next spring

Thanks for everything Naitram. This is the first time I've used this forum for info.,  no disappointments whatsoever.  If I run into any problems when I get going on the bars I'll let you know,   take care.

I changed to a 1" Flanders bar with no problems. For those with short arms, Flanders makes many bends with LOTS of pullback. I've changed the bars on 3 Road Kings to and always been pleased with the results.
