2010 96" to 106 Build
« on: March 20, 2021, 10:37:06 AM »

Doing a rebuild due to crank issue that took out my oil pump and cam plate. Would like input from those with experience with similar builds.

2010 Street Glide
S&S crankshaft (tapered rod ends)
S&S oil pump
S&S cam plate
S&S cam chain tensioner
S&S 106 Big Bore Kit (10:1)
Jim's powerglide lifter's
Fueling 543 cams
103 ACR heads with factory ACR's installed
Getting stage 2 head work that involves a 1.9 intake (AV&V valves)
Increased stronger valve springs (in case I want to change cam later.
Bronze valve guides
CNC head porting but chamber itself will be untouched.
Now is that a decent combination?
I can go a step further with a stage 2b that will have the intake port welded and reshaped with a bit of a ramp and the chamber polished but not sure if it is needed.
Thoughts?

There are unknowns and it is impossible to predict the outcome other than if the work is quality work and the cylinders are straight and true, pistons fit right, it will run and work for a long time with proper maintenance. The head porter would be the one to ask about cams as they are related to the head flow. That cam has very wide LSA and will not be very strong down low, accentuated by the early opening exhaust. The tuning device, pipe decision (IMPORTANT), injector sizing, plus throttle body requirements best decided by consulting with the dyno tuner none of which are mentioned.

Exhaust is a supermeg 2 into1 tuner is a powervision. Dyno will be done but build isn't complete.
Was wondering is the stage 2B over the stage 2 itself is worth it

If your potential builder has any builds like the one suggested, ask him for the average power, and torque figures he makes with them. ;)

too strong valve springs are often a ingredient to failed lifters.. 110 stock springs are often said to be too strong to start with. are you racing it? or riding it? just thoughts

Agree with John, this is a question for the shop porting the heads. The "2B" doesn't have a lot of relevance to the rest of us because porting shops attach their own designations to their head work packages.

Good point, you don't know the porter. It probably won't help but here is a description of the porting options.

Jordan1200, I am curious who is doing the engine work for you.  Also who is doing the dyno work?
I had my heads done by JPrecision on my 110" a few years ago.  I went with the 2B option, but not how helpful that is to you.

The work is being done at Red's motorcycles and the dyno tuning at Brooklyn cycle racing in Pickering. I wanted Don Morris at stay tuned systems to do it, I know him and he is a good engine builder but I didn't realize he will only work with one tuner software. That wasn't the case a few years ago. Since I already have a powervision, I didn't want to buy another tune license.
Who tuned yours?

In the past I had Bruce Roy of Dynotunes do my work, including the heads from JPrecision and tuning.  Not sure if he is still around.
Another option for tuning is Speedlab.ca   I believe they tune any device and for sure do Power Comander / Power Vision.  He has a shop in Newmarket and focuses on tuning only.  I have not used him, but may go and see him this summer to do some minor clean ups on my tune.

I have used Bruce in the past. Not sure if he is still around. Speed labs quoted me 700-800 to tune my bike and that was with my existing powervision tuner.
Way too much...

That is crazy from Speedlab.  I spoke to him a few years ago and his pricing seem to be inline with other tuners, say around $350 for a full tune.
Who does Red's recommend for tuning?  A real lack of quality tuners in the GTA

He likes Donny at Stay tuned. He really is good but will only tune with his preferred tuning software now...

If Patrick Juteau is doing your heads, you're in good hands.
