This is a great story that just happened this past weekend, sent out by a Patriot Guard Rider. I believe the unit was the AdVon of RCT 5 who have been on a year long deployment. I was out of town this weekend otherwise I would have attended the homecoming!
A Patriot Guard Rider was injured early Saturday Morning while escorting a Marine Unit home from a year long deployment in Afghanistan. Reading this story will bring a tear to your eye and hope to your heart!
...Gunny was heading up a Welcome Home for one of the Marine Units from Pendleton coming in at March AFB and he was hit by a car just after he and our other members and the 4 buses entered the freeway at the 215 S in Moreno Valley at about 0300 yesterday morning. He is "ok", thank God, broken arm, scrapes and bruises and will require surgery on the arm, but for the most part he's "ok".
The Marines who were with him, in the buses, all got off the buses and held traffic on the freeway, as Gunny and his bike were strewn across the lanes, they attended to him until the EMTs arrived and they stayed and picked up all his personal belonging and parts of the bike after he left before they reboarded the buses to go on to Pendleton to meet their families who were waiting for them.
We at the PGR and Gunny were overwhelmed with thanks and emotion to witness and hear about how these marines reacted. Thanks is not enough, but it's all we have, we love our troops, we thank them for their service and not only in battle but in every day life, of which this is a perfect example.. They are heroes in more ways than most know.
