Title: Twin Cool 110s run the same, cooler, or hotter?
Post by: Lu on August 10, 2014, 12:56:03 PM
So there are rumors that MoCo will be offering a CVO RGU in '15.  I guess we will know in two weeks.

Nevertheless, if it is true, I would be very interested, but I’m hesitant to pull the trigger as I do not want to put down $40K to realize the bike runs hot.

So I’m asking all you CVO limited owners how yours run now that it is the middle of summer.

- Does it run hotter vs the air cooled CVO 110’s
- Runs the same as the air cooled CVO 110’s
- Cooler than the air cooled CVOs, but hotter than the Twin Cool ’14 103” Ultra Limited.
- Cooler and runs the same as the Twin Cool ’14 103” Ultra limited.
- runs cooler vs the ’14 103” Ultra Limited.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

They all run hot. It's a air cooled engine. There are steps you can do..... Programmer, exhaust and get rid of the cat. But no matter what it's a air cooled engine that runs 250-300* between your legs. No matter what you do it's going to feel hot. Just get out and ride it!

I had an 09 Cvo ultra and now I ride a 2014 CVO Limited. It has the Harley high flow exhaust but otherwise stock. It definitely runs cooler than the 09. There is still some heat to my right calf but it it much improved.

I just did a 4000k ride with a buddy who has a14 CVO Limited. Never once did he complain about heat. The first 6 says was in 100 dg temps. Times I was cooking on my 07, he was okay.

The cooled heads are worth it!

Test ride a 14 limited and see for your self.  That's what I would recommend.

Had an '08 CVO and now have a '14 CVO Limited.  Same basic mods to both.  Pipes and headers, race tuner.  The '14 runs much cooler than the '08 did.

I've ridden the 103s, but unfortunately, I would only be able to demo ride a CVO Limited at a rally that HD are in, no dealer I know of in the NE allows you to demo a CVO.  If you know of one, please let me know.

To all thanks for the replies, I've demoed a 12' CVO Ultra at Americade and it's basically cooked my legs, that is why I'm only interested in a Twin Cool CVO Road Glide Ultra.

I did demo days at the factory here in KC last September when the twin cooled bikes first came out. Both days were over 100 degrees. The twin cooled bikes were noticeably cooler than the air cooled bikes. I test rode them all several times. And if I was looking for a new bike it'd have to be twin cooled motor. The limited and CVO limited were cooler with lowers on than mine was without. It was a hot weekend in KC.

Rode my 14 limited today  houston tx. Heat index 105.  Let's say I am glad I had dual cooled.   So much better / cooler. than the 13 hertiage.  I ride.

I went from a 10 SEUC to a 14 SE Limited.

The 14 has more power stock and runs cooler stock than my 10 did stock..

The 14 with Fullsac headpipe, stock mufflers/baffles, Fullsac TTS tune, runs as well and cooler than my 10 did with 54's, Fullsac headpipe, stock mufflers/baffles, and Fullsac TTS tune.

I believe the 14 has increased compression ratio.  I did not change the head gaskets on the 10..

You don't notice the heat on your right leg as with the 10..
Hope this helps.

It is hotter than an 09 Road King with a built and tuned motor for sure. I am convinced the lowers have a lot to do with how warm a bike feels and having any on the bikes makes it feel hotter. Only the heads are partially cooled and plenty of heat still comes form the cylinders and pipes.

After revisiting the thread I recognize that it is in the Limited forum in which all bikes have lowers so my post is worthless. :huepfenlol2:

This is my 1st cvo a '14 limited had an 05 electra and 03 road king. the twin cooled was way hotter until I gutted the cat. Now it seems the same as other bikes not cooler though... the bike is awesome except for a noise from the comp sprocket that the dealer keeps saying is normal..

On a hot day during a long ride it gets REAL bad almost embarrassingly loud at idle it makes a knocking/ rattle
