Rear 240 Tire Suggestions for My Breakout
« on: November 15, 2014, 07:52:57 AM »

Man, these tires go fast! 4000 miles and I'm almost due for a new rear tire. Anyone running Dunlop Elite 3 240-40-18 rears? Also wondering about the Elite 3 250...will it fit on a Breakout?

I need a rear tire for my 2014 Breakout. The front is still good. Only 4000 miles and it's worn badly. Running stock Dunlops but looking for a 240 rear that will get better milage for a good price. If I change to Avon or Pirelli, or something else, must I also change the front tire to the same brand?

I don't know if it's advertising hype or fact but I have read and heard over the years that with motorcycle tires they are designed as a pair for best handling and performance so you should stick with the same brand and model tire as a set. Otherwise you may have handling issues due to different tread patterns and tire compositions.

I have been happy with Michelin Comander 2 tires get about
13,000 on rear tire. Also check into the New Dunlop American Elete dual compound tires that have a harder rubber in the middle some say 18,000 miles on rear tire. I will try one next time a rear tire is due.

Appreciate the tip but I'm running a Dunlop in front and I'm not sure if I can put a Michelin on the rear without switching out the front tire too.

I agree with EaEagle. I would always match front and rears, however I am a bit OCD when it comes to my stuff! I have been very pleased with the Avon Cobras on my Springer. My factory rear Dunlop only got 7k. I now have close to 7k on the Avons and they aren't half worn out yet. Great handling too!  :2vrolijk_21:
