Christmas Came Early...
« on: December 24, 2003, 12:24:58 PM »

Just got my Christmas present and just HAD to get them on ASAP.

They're the new H-D Hardbags for Dynas. They come painted (any Harley color) and ready to install. While I was waiting for them (4 week, special-order-only) I found some matching gold metallic flames from Cycle Graphics and WOW did it make it look like they came on the bike from day one.

At first I thought the back looked a little W I D E, but after a few hours looking at it has seemed to look just right.

Hey Buffy, your bike looks great. When I first started looking at and sitting on Harleys in the showroom, I gravitated to the Wideglide right away. Just felt like the bike fit well. I decided on the Deuce after several test rides--I liked the extra lean angle. I tend to lean my bike when I ride. You know, our bikes are more sport oriented. How long have you had your bike and what made you think about putting on bags? Were you touring etc. ? I ask this question because I wonder if riders who begin with the sport oriented bikes evolve over time toward the comfy/cozy touring models.

Actually, while I was back in my hometown (Akron, OH) this summer, Liberty H-D had a 2003 Screamin' Eagle Deuce with a set of hard bags (color matched gold & black) and I fell in love with it.

I love my RED dyna, so switching was out of the question, but adding the bags was a no-brainer.

BTW, I was torn between a Wideglide and a Deuce when I first started looking too, until I ran upon my CVO Wideglide2.

Love that RED............

So tell me why you like the bags so much. Long rides? How do you use them? The 03 SE Deuce looked good with hard bags huh? The Harley website does not offer hard bags as an accessory for my bike. Might they in the future or do you make a special order and they paint to match? All I have right now is the leather sissy bar/backrest bag. Seems OK for day rides I guess. I can get rain gear in there with a sweater or so.

Honestly, at this time of the year, it's nice to be able to have an extra sweatshirt, glasses or whatever handy when the sun goes down.

Right now, it's more to carry all of my wife's "look pretty" stuff and water, basic tools, etc..

On a long trip, I'll still have to go with the sissy bar backpack.

Nice looking bags. Wish I could find some to fit the FXR4. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

They don't say anything about fitting an FXR. I have seen 1 or 2 FXR's with hard bags but couldn't get a reply from the owner as where they got them. I have wondered if the bags for Dyna's could be made to fit. I think the ones on your bike Buffy look great. Thanks for the link though.       [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

FXR4 -

If you want, I could take some measurements for you and let you know to see if it's close or not.

Buffy....what make and model seat did you install?  How much of a difference from stock?  I am sure it was a big improvement for the passenger.  The main reason I'm looking is that my girlfriend does not like the passenger pillon at all, can't say that I blame her.  I sat on the back of the bike and that was enough to tell me that I wouldn't like to ride very far as a passenger!

I would appreciate yours or anyones input.

Thanks

Switchblade,

It's the Corbin Dual Tourer.  We had it for over a year and I'd buy it again!  [smiley=bigok.gif]

Good luck,

John,

Thanks for the reply.  I thought it might of been a Corbin DT due to the style and the tag.  I looked on their web site and current version of the Dual Tour looks a bit different, maybe the styles have changed this year.  Did this seat move you up or forward at all?  How long did you have to wait for the seat after you ordered it?

Thanks again,

Switchblade,  I was almost too embarrassed to answer this thread because it's been so long since I signed on, but here is the answer.........

I ordered the seat at the Atlanta Motorcycle Expo and it took six (6) weeks.  I added the flamed stitching on the seat (and backrest) and was well worth it!

Good luck!

Hey Switchblade, I reread you question and realized that I didn't answer it.

YES, it raises you about and inch and moved you forward about an inch.

Buffy,

What did you do to your frame? Saw your bike on Rick Powell's site with a close up of the alteration. Looks like some sort of shock reduction or isolation mod. Cool!

I'm not Buffy, but I remember some details.  Enough to do a "search" here, anyway. ;D  Anyway, Buffy didn't give a part number but he does state the Corbin name:

"It's the Corbin Dual Tourer"

Hope this helps.
