Title: SERG at 2.75 Yrs. Enhancements Continue?? Still in Love!?
Post by: GregKhougaz on July 11, 2011, 02:34:19 PM
Picked up the SERG, October 4, 2008.  Very grateful for all that I have learned from this site.  For some time, I kept a running tab of "enhancements," SERG AND CVO: VERY GOOD TO ME! NEXT? (http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=31097.0)    No posts there since August, 2009.  I know some have done even more....  My how time flies!  27,384 Miles now.  Motor is strong but after hearing some bearing noise coming from the clutch area, dealer is replacing the whole assembly under the extended warranty.  First repair in a while but a big one.  Took the opportunity to install the chrome inner primary.  As I update the "Enhancement list," I have to think of that excuse guys use on their wives, "Honey, a CVO is complete.  I won't have to spend more money."   :D   :D

Nope, I thought it would, and now that I'm on this site I can no longer see the end and I'm having so much fun prioritizing what to buy and do next! If that's the only problem I have then I'm doing ok! :2vrolijk_21:

Hey, I thought Greg was doing well with that number.  I've got "the list" for the red bike too.  But that list will never be added up.  No way.  Not going to happen.  If I saw a total I'd have to shoot me.

Have the receipt folder for the new bike and the cherry also, will never ever add them up either.

Good to hear the positive report Greg.  Will you upgrade to the SE Compensator when you replace the left side guts?

Somehow, I think the bike already has the SE compensator.  I think it was installed the second time my starter clutch went out.  It doesn't show up in my paperwork though.  I have a call into the service department to find out.

Yes they did put it in when they replaced the starter clutch.  If I had a separate receipt for it I must have misplaced it.

Nice list glad to see you are still up and going strong. Enjoyed the time a MV GTG. have the same windscreen wish i had gotten the 14" and bought the ST's in a longer shock for more clearance and never scrape but wish I had the stock length. Have you put on the monotubes yet? Be interested in hearing your impressions. Still can't decide about the 2nd upgrade on the radio system yet. Got the Hawg wired 150w 2 speaker system maybe 1 1/2 yrs old but the speakers need replacing and more power/amp for the lowers and the speakers in them!

Mike, it was great to meet you and everyone at Maggie Valley.  I only wish I could have been there longer!  Southern hospitality is a fine thing.  Yes, still going strong or at least going.  Lots of stereo options these days.  Happy wth the J & M...  I hope we get to ride together soon!

Way to go Greg. Keep the Mods going. I just added some ARP Stainless bolts to front Calipers and Brake Rotors today. Still feel this Bike is a keeper. It would take a really fantastic Roadglide to change my mind.

Sounds like you (Greg) have done a lot to your motor.  I have 1+3/4 inch Fullsacs....better than stock, but would still like a little more.  Do the 2" baffles give a little more bark?
How did you get rid of the "clatter" that seems to be inherent in the 110?  It drives me nuts.  Do we really have to put up with this?  Makes me wish for the 103 I had before.

Good luck with the clatter. Thats why I have the larger amp and speakers! LOL :orange:

Resbiker, the 2" Fullsacs sound great to me; just a bit more bark than the 1.75"s that were on a friends SERG.  I think it's a matter of taste and a either is fine.

The top end clatter is another story.  I usually wear earplugs so the sound of does not bother me but it should not be that loud.  I have an S&S 112" motor in my Titan which is far more powerful but far quieter.  I don't know an answer for it but I suspect that is why some motors are having lifter failure.   :nixweiss:

Okay,  so how to avoid the '12, "I'm not getting a new bike blues?"

Found the Kuryakyn, "V-Shield Horn Cover" for $57 (instead of $80).  About a two-minute install.

Have the heavy breather and did not like the Kuryakyn, Chrome Throttle Body Cover.  HD finally has one, P# 61300109.  Something to put on this week.

That is rather interesting. (like a battleshield from Star Wars)
Must be a reason it was $57. (instead of $80)
You may be better off with a 12.

Greg....

Considering how much abuse my bike has taken from me (despite failed lifters at 23,400 miles) all has gone pretty well...  Currently just shy of 30K I have no complaints other than my feet getting wet when it rains.

I looked at the '11 SERGU, didnt like the graphics... same as the '12 FTLRXSE... and the skull in the middle of the fairing... WTF?

I love the Eagle on the '00-01 and '09... and wont have it any other way.

If I have issues with the lifters again, I think I have a solution... gotta look into it...

I have said before that I would take an Eagle over a skull anytime.  I don't have any current plans to do any engine modifications.  The motor seems to be strong and healthy currently.  Would love to hear suggestions assuming I ever have to get into the motor...  Thanks.

BTW,  What constitutes "abuse?"

I do like the Eagle better than the Skulls.

I'm trying to figure is there is a way to keep the 09.  Or if it is even worth it to have two bikes so similar.

I love the 09 SERG, I have 37K trouble free miles on it.  I love the looks ride and handling.

That said, I want a new road glide, and to me CVO is the only way to go.

Not sure if they will make it in 13.  I do not do ultra, no need wife rides her own.

Whelp, I briefly entertained the thought of a '12 doberman colored but it passed...so I figgered with all the money I saved I'd treat the '09 pumkin to a C&C leather solo and a Clearview GT13...so I did....and still have change left for future self indulgence. 18,000 and 3 more yrs warranty, I'm good.

Well, right now my heads & cylinders are in Nevada getting blinged out. when they go back on the bike there will be new highcomp pistons going in to go along with the 259e bump sticks. and several little goodies
