Awaiting delivery of my SESG and really bummed about the fact I'll be forking over $6000.00 more $36829 CDN compared to $30999 US given the fact our currencies are almost at par. Called Canadian distributor (Deeleys) and they said they have no plans to do another price adjustment on the 2010s here in Canada based on the value of our dollar, but may do so for the 2011s. So much for resale value...
I guess we get to pay the extra 6K for that Transport Canada required taillight assembly and they have us over a barrel as US dealers are not permitted to sell to Canadians. Unfortunate situation given I'm only an hour away from the border... Wish there was some way to pressure Deeleys as I'm sure someone (them) are simply pocketing the difference... Thank-you very much...
Fatass,
You may remember late 2003 when the CDN $ started to climb, people bought the "Rare Anniversary" bikes at the lower $ CDN, then it started to climb. A lot of shoppers close border started buying in the US. Well the CDN HD Dealers and Deeley had a come to Jesus Meeting, the price dropped dramatically, the people who bought earlier were SOL. Even when the Dollars were Par or close we still paid more for CDN parts and Bikes as you must remember Deeley is a business and has to make money, so I guess the difference may be their Margins, which I do not begrudge them as they are Harley Davidson Canada.
As far as US dealers not able to sell to Canadians, this is not a Transport Canada mandated Taillight assembly issue, it is HD Corporate Policy that HD Dealers can not sell "new bikes" Cross Border.
The relationship with Deeley Motors and HD goes back decades, when Trev Deeley stuck it out with HD during the tough years, AMF period etc. So their is a lot of Loyalty on HDs part when it comes to Deeley Motors.
