Title: 120 in motor now available
Post by: Craigisdad on February 03, 2012, 09:19:56 PM
My local dealer is at the dealer meeting in Texas, he put a picture of a new 120 on his Facebook page. It says new 120r twin cam new for 2012 available to retro fit any 2002 and later big twin. So maybe we will see this in the Cvo lineup for 2013. What do you think?

I think your dealer is a day year late and a dollar short!  It's been out for at least a year.

not exactly - in fact the 120 R in the first place was an option for 06 up Dynas and 07 up Softail/touring models only. Just since lately it's offered for the older models too.

Crate 120R's have been available here in OZ for a few years too, but they are still illegal for road use here,,,,,
If that's changed in the USA, then we might see the change in OZ at around never O'clock !

Hope to MoCo did a better job on R&D with the 120 than they did on the 110.

Ain't that the truth.  I paid $35k for my '07 just to be a beta tester for the 110.

The 120r for 02-06 models is in the 12 SE Catalog, if it were just released it wouldnt have made the catalog.  I dont know about a year, but its been a while for sure.

My dealer told me the 120 was only for racing and was not cover by warranty.

The HD dealer in Lethbridge installed a 120R crate motor into a regular touring model and so far the guy has ridden from Alberta to the BC coast and back with no issues. Not even any any excessive motor noise like the 110's are known for. The only thing he had to do was add a hydraulic clutch. It was either that or always go into neutral at a red light. You are correct, no warranty other than what the local dealer will stand behind. Although it wasn't that long ago that a 95 inch stage 2 kit had no warranty either.

I installed a 120 in my SEUC about a year ago.  It now has about 10K on it, including a few weeks thru the Colorado Rocky's.  No issues at all - I'm very pleased with all aspects of it's performance.   :2vrolijk_21:

Riding solo - typically 40 - 42 mpg.  Riding two up fully loaded and pulling the Bushtec - about 36 mpg.   :2vrolijk_21:
