Check engine light came on, pulled codes and it had 3 codes for the fan . I checked the fuse and it was blown. Installed another and then the check engine and temp light came on. Took apart the pump and it was burnt up inside. Installed the updated pump kit. It wasn’t too hard just a lot of screws and bolts on the lower fairings.

Mine actually looked a lot better than that inside after it failed (15000 miles). Still didn't work though! ;D

Your one of the lucky ones. Mine failed so I put another junk pump on and the new style pump came out about 3 weeks later. The crooked mothership sold all the junk ones before releasing the new style. A good company would have pulled all the old stock. Same thing with compensators back in 2009-11.
I have to look forward to doing this again some day with going to a updated pump.
Plus I’ll have to do lifters again as a preventative maintenance or risk ruining engine.
And they wonder why sales are slow. I’m tired of being a Guinea pig.
Like I’ve said several times if they did a 3-5 year warranty the sons a bitches would go broke. Wonder how the ESP’s stay in business.

After planning over a year to go to Sturgis mine failed there on day 2. I guess I was lucky because I got 22,000 miles on the bike before it failed. Did I mention the crank bearing failed at 27,000 miles at a bike rally in Panama City. I had the ESP ( which you pay a lot for) so repairs were mostly covered but not the trip, rentals and enjoyment missed. But that's the true joy of owning maintenance unreliable products. The true joy of HD.

Back in 96 during warranty my petcock was failing and the dealer said we can't find one so it will be awhile. My answer was why do you even want to put on one that is failing on other bikes as well. I said you go to the shelf and get one of those Pingel petcocks and install and write whatever you want on the warranty paperwork and I will sign it. I got my way without extra charge. It is still on the bike today.

I%u2019m thinking you purchase a new harley for good looks , dependability, longevity, reliability not so much. sorry just saddened about another case of bad parts from harley.

Just wondering if I should do a proactive replacement on my 2015 with 36k miles. Still running original pump with no issues ever. Right/wrong did change coolant to Prestone about two years ago.

I would consider replacing it. I only had 16k and mine was toasted. Might be worth taking the top of the pump off and look for any signs of overheating. It was easy to remove the cover on the pump.

On dismantling mine after replacing it with the new-style pump, there were no signs of any overheating, the gumming up, or the broken joints others have seen, it just no longer worked.
