Major power loss at high RPM 2014 FLHRSE.
« on: April 19, 2020, 09:07:15 AM »

Does anyone know of possible causes for large power drop on aggressive exceleration. Was riding yesterday and when I went heavy on the throttle she kicked in solid and when I hit third gear I loss all power for a brief second before kicking back in.  Tested the bike 3 or 4 more times and it happened every time, but at different RPM ranges.  When I got back to my garage laid I. It heavy in neutral and I could not get the engine to rev much over 600 rpms

600 rpm is less than idle speed. Did you mean 6000 rpms?

Thanks so much for responding.  It’s my 2014 Road King.  Only upgrades are H-D race tuner, DD Exhaust, Fueling Lifters and Cams.  I just changed the fluids in all three holes two rides ago.  First ride a week ago was very aggressive avg. 85 mph for 6 hours, no prob.  2 nd ride was yesterday around town at slow speed for a couple hours until the end when I pushed a bit and the problem showed itself.  I also noticed what is best described as a whistle sound on the left side of the bike

out of the factory redline is usually 5600 to 5800 RPM.  Harley tuners can bring it to 6000 rpm I believe.  After Market can go higher.

So your rêv limiter is keeping it from going past 6000 rpm.

My 13 CVO King has rev limiter set at 5800 by my tuners setting as its not making power past 5600 rpm, its falling off.

Since you did just do cams could have pinched an o ring - check for Sumping

Any codes in the Speedo?

Might check the crank sensor as well

Is bike in limp mode could reset the throttle?

Harry he never said he JUST changed the cam and lifters. If it was sumping, on a twin cam it would make power in the upper RPM's. It would be slugish getting there. Don't ask me how I know!!!!

Mike I just went through a sumping issue and mine wouldn’t make any power filled the sump to 1.5 quarts of oil in 2-3 house from the garage.  More you ran it the worse it got

Wasn’t an o ring but still killed the power.

Any case worth a check it’s 5 minutes and a measuring cup

whistle sound may be a leak at the intake throttle body seal, also check vacuum port on top of TB has the plug/cap on it...   :nixweiss: good luck getting it sorted
