Camera's?
« on: May 20, 2009, 11:56:16 PM »

We are going through hell with our Nikon coolpik s210. I hate this camera, we have lost way too many shots due to blur and bad focus. Our last camera was a Panasonic and it never missed a shot, my old bulky Kodak never misses, but this p.o.s. Nikon never hits, no matter what I set it to do. I need your experience on a good unit that is small for those riding shots. Marty and Paula have a Kodak that looks great, I just don't know the model. HELP ME! Please!

I have the same camera as you & not a fan. My brother in law has an olympus that is great for motorcycle shots, it's compact and is a lot more motorcycle friendly. Don't know the model type but it sure is better than what I have.

for point & shoot cameras - Samsung seems to rate pretty well.  The Digimax A7 is what I use when I'm in a hurry.

I bought a Kodak in Feb. I was going on a business trip to Oman and Amsterdam. I was not impressed with the pictures it took 8 megaplex and all. My wife accused me of moving but then she tried it the same type pictures came out. I plan to take it back and exchange when I get home. We have another Kodak (My Wife's) and it takes great pictures.

I'm on my third Canon. Their Powershot line has been good for me.

The wife has a Cannon also very happy. Someone mentioned Jonga had a camera that took great pics lately but don't know what kind it is.

As for cameras I have a number of them but as for as compact ones my latest is the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS, 14.7 Mega Pixels.  The photographs of my trip to Cali and Copperhead were taken with that one.  One of the features I like is a viewfinder for stabilization.

I use this one, excellent 10MP shots and a 15X zoom HD movie mode. Also very compact. I see the price is lower then what i paid ($325.00) This is an awesome deal at $235.  :2vrolijk_21:

If you want the best pictures, go for Canon. Period.

We have several here at work and they lead a hard life - lots of travel, being dropped, stuffed in pockets, sitting unused for weeks, etc.  The Olympus water-proof ones, 410 model so I don't know what has replaced it, have held up well and are simple to use.  Our Cannon Powershot is still working but has some issues and hasn't held up as well cosmetically.  I have a Sony 8.2 at home and like it quite well.  I rarely get a blur and then it's because I failed to notice where it was telling me it was focused.

Dave I love my Canon. One thing that I found that is important to me is a stabilizer along with a good zoom I won't use anything less then a 10x. A lot of my best shots are on the back of the bike. I need the zoom when Terry won't pull over for that special shot.  ;D
My newest one is a Canon Power Shot SX110IS. I love it, If I drop it and damage it, it's not like a spent a fortune on it.   :2vrolijk_21:

I have an Olympus DSLR and Love It!

I also have a small pocket Sony Cybershot that takes Great pictures, not the same quality but for a small camera Very Good.

The one thing that I have learned with the small compact digital cameras is the best mode to have the camera in is the Automatic Focus setting.  With my Sony if I have it in any other mode (it has 13 from mountains to portrait) the picture quality is greatly compromised.  Maybe you leave your camera on Auto Mode all the time but it is worth checking.

Hope this helps.   ;D

So far that was the trick! I did more digging in the settings and found the AF setting was on Face? Changed it to Auto and the pictures we got yesterday were great.
