Title: Has any one moved the forward controls back to make them standard/mid
Post by: Andrea O on September 17, 2007, 08:57:53 PM
Hope everyone is enjoying riding.

I am looking into moving my forward controls back.  I am having a hard time using the rear break easily.  I test drove a dyna at the dealership the other day that had the mid controls and was comfortable with the controls moved back.

When I asked the parts  dept they said they did not see a kit for going back to mid / standard controls only a kit going forward.

I will have to stop by service and see what they think.

Has anyone made this change?

Andrea

Not something that I would want to do, but, if you want to save some money on the conversion, look on Ebay. I've seen Dyna mid controls coming up constantly.
Good Luck.

I asked my dealer about doing this and it can be done, but if I remember correctly I think I was told it would cost around $2,000.  The big reason for this is that you would need to change the primary.  The mid control pegs come through the primary and the one we have on our bikes will not allow that.

I have my heel rests set up so that I rest my feet on top of them and it feels more like a mid-control bike.  Maybe you could just play around with the position of the heel rests and see if that helps?

Andrea,
I moved mine back. Didn't care for it, and put them back where they were in the first place. I wound up sending my seat in to have reworked to move me forward. It's working for me. There is no problem moving them back. You do need to change the primary, and I believe, the inner primary. If you decide to go that route, let me know. I have a primary and inner that I'll sell you cheaper than you can buy it from HD. They're like new.

You can also modify your boots, have 2-3" added to the soles, it works great! Any shoe repair shop can perform this repair for you. Being a "vertically challenged" male, I chose to make this "modification" instead of changing anything on the bike. When I went to the shop to have it done and asked the guy if he could do it he said"yeah, I've done it before", I explained why I wanted it done and he said" yeah, that's why the others did it, you're just the first man"...dag! Good luck!

I took the front pegs and reversed them (left on the right-right on the left) was having a hard time keeping my feet on them during highway speeds  :2vrolijk_21:

Smurfsdad, Did you modify the primary cover or buy a new one with the hole in it?  I saw a bike with it done, and I couldn't believe they drilled it?  I bought a different seat for it and it made it more comfortable, definately sits better.  I dont like the stripper style sit it comes with.  I was very temped to buy the 08 seat, it is a perfect seat.  But I went with the limited Orion seat.  I will be selling the stock seat (on ebay?) very soon.

Soulfly,

Can I get a pic of that seat? What did it run you?

Pick any of the "SIDEKICK" seats.
