The kit includes a pair of new FOB's which must be "married" to the BCM by the dealer with their DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II. It's an easy enough physical installation, so why pay the dealer $125/hour? BUT, don't know if the motor can be started until the BCM "knows" a security FOB is present.
QUESTION: If I were to install the system in my garage, is it possible to start the motor and ride to the dealer to complete the FOB programming? :nixweiss: I'm aware it's possible to start a motor with no fob present by entering a Security PIN, however that's for an already installed/activated system where a PIN had previously been assigned. Reading from the Service Manual, I doubt a default PIN is pre-assigned to a replacement part:

From my 2015 Touring Service Manual: ACTUATION: Activation consists of assigning two fobs to the system and entering an initial PIN (picked by the owner). The initial PIN entry should be performed using DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II in conjunction with fob assignment. Once the system has been activated, it “arms” within 5 seconds of switching the OFF/RUN switch to OFF and no motorcycle motion.

BACKGROUND: Ordered and received a new 41000341 BCM for my 2015 FLTRUSE. The newer BCM is a part of the 41000087F Smart Security System Kit which is required in order to install the tire pressure monitoring system first seen in the 2016 CVO's.

G’day Trigger-man,

Are the new fobs the one piece ones with the integrated key that the 16s came out with?

Cheers Tom

Hey Tom,
No. I chose to purchase the kit which includes a pair of the newer fobs (90300111) required to work with the newer BCM. I believe the one piece integrated key-fob was only issued in 2016. Reviews indicated it was a bit bulky and were mixed. Besides, I hardly ever use the key itself so I passed on ordering that extra-expense item LOL.
Ride Safe,
Dennis

if the dealer is halfway decent, then the cost to install the bcm and activate the security should be the same whether or not you've installed the bcm or they did.  it isn't like it is a difficult task.  probably take all of 5 minutes.

The bike will not run until the new BCM needs to be "married" to the ECM. This is and the fob assignment is done with the digital technician. At our shop we have the software from Techno Research to do this work. There is also software from Diag4bike that can do it. Check with the aftermarket shops in your area to see if the have one of the programs to do it. It will not take more than an hour to do the configuration.

Checked with a friendly Service Writer at my local dealership and "it's all good". He estimated 3/10ths to 1/2 of an hour labor for both programming and switching the BCM's. Thanks!!

Curious if this could be done with a Daytona Twin Tech, anyone know?

Mission accomplished after a pair of minor hiccups ::). Tech was done in 15 minutes but must have overlooked activating my PowerLocks which were "dead". Neither the Key FOB's nor the console hard buttons worked until the tech figured it out. I'm guessing it was a Digital Technician setting. Also, the red security light remained on until a process was followed to make my LED turn signals work with the CANBUS. Apparently this had to be redone with the new BCM.

Anyone know if my old 2015 CVO Smart Security System with BCM and 2 FOB's can be used on another bike if programmed by a Harley Dealer?
