Has anyone figured out if you can put the 2010 RG mounts on the 2009 and earlier models? I kind of like the look of the 2010's
-
My bet is they would fit just fine, they haven't changed the angle or position of the fairing. I think they did that to allow a better selection of lowers.
-
they look exactly like the 09 SERG mounts, so yes, they should fit

It was my understanding the fairing is moved up .800 inch and titled another 2 degrees.
-
The 2010 RG has different mounts. I haven't eyeballed the main front mount. But to me the angle of attack appears different. But the back mounts on the engine guard are different. They've angled them in to the center apparently allowing for the new wider vented lowers.
-
I was considering changing the mount on mine as well, but I wondered how that would 'sku' the alignment of the stripes from the fairing to the tank..... They aren't all that close to begin with but...
-
I know the mounting angle is different. I had not considered the stripe placement, thanks for the heads up on that.
-
yea it might fluff the feathers on the orange and yellow SERG. But ain't nothin going to hurt the looks and quickness of the Silver SERG :2vrolijk_21:
-
The fairing is .800" higher and tilted 2* forward from '09.
-
Hopefully, this picture will show the differences. '09 Standard RG on left. '10 RG Custom on right. One other thing that appears is that the bottom of the headlight bezel is extended out from the fairing.
-
I have been looking at this issue. The bracket that attaches to the frame and the front end has changed. I beleive it tilts and raises the front end. Also you will need the left and right chrome bracket and the are also taller than the stock. So i beleive you will need these 3 parts. Then this will allow us to mount the new style vented lowers. Also you can purchase an old set of vented but will need to shorten the cap extension that cover the engine guard. I plan on this being one of my winter projects.

Looking at the new 2010 line up on H-D's web and they've identified a new paint for the 2010 RG Custom "NEW Limited Paint Set – Primo". It's an option. Appears to hide the fairing's flowing lines.
Check out that front tire's direction of slots.
-
At least they selected the BEST Color.

I'm sorry but I see no difference at all, I went to a dealer here yesterday and looked hard at the 2, used my tape measure and still no difference, the thing with the bezel is just that, one has a lense cover and one does not. that was a new thing for the 09 SERG's
-
I have received the 2010 brackets and the difference is the 2 support brackets as well as the front support bracket. I have install them on the the 2009 SERG to accommodated the vented lowers. The customer wanted my custom leg warmers with my speakers kit that I make for the the electric glide. Here are the part numbers with pictures.

how much time to change out and I assume the headlights can be adjusted to proper position?
Thanks for the photos and info
-
5 min to remove the outer fairing, 10 min to remove the inner, change main braket 15 - 20 min, 5 min to clean dirt from road trips, them the reverse times apply. approx 1 hour.
-
This is very compelling. I want to do the same. Hopefully with the vents it will help with the heat issue. does anyone know if the shape and size of the area where the glove boxes go are the same as in previous years. I have speaker pods in there on my exisitng lowers. Thanks

I dunno, obviously the rear of the fairing is higher in relationship to the gas tank...
-
Please post pics - I would like to see how the stripes line up and if it takes away from the flowing lines.
Thanks - great job.

Total cost for new bracket and mounts is $139.04 + shipping from Chicago H-D or other 20% discount dealer.

I was looking at it again, I thick I can make a 4 degree shim and place it in between the inner bracket and the inner fairing what you think???

ok so tell, what gets accomplished by this change
-
What I dont get is why did HD do this change. Couldnt they have made the lowers fit without the change to the fairing mounts. So, is there some other benefit/reason for the change.

It allow you to use the new style lower fairing with vents. Instead of the useless roadglide lowers that are over priced.

You are right brad. The electric glide vented lowers are perfect. The road glide lower don't fit right and the storage box's are heavy and don't fix well. That all I have to say. ;D

I'm not sure I follow. Are you referring to the new ones? Have you installed them and found them not to be desirable? Please elaborate. Thanks
-
No. The electric glide vented lowers fit perfect with the upgrade of the brackets. The standard road glide lower don't fit right and the storage box's are heavy and don't fix well. Yes I have done the conversion and the Vented lowers work well.

have any photos of the stripes
-
And what is about the aerodynamic air flow ?
Does the new mounted sharknose result in a better handling at high speed , does it improve the down-pressure to the front end or does it cause more wobbeling or loosing the contact to the ground while driving with high speed ?
Did you recognize any differences ?
( and pics please ) :-\

Strange how weeks have gone by with NO PHOTOS! My guess is that it must not have turned out as well as was envisioned.
-
Sorry guys. I am doing one this weekend. Will get pics up on the site this weekend. ;D
-
My lower chrome 2010 style brackets came in today along with the quik detach kit for the lowers. Lowers (vented style) misplaced (??) by UPS and supposed to be in store on monday. The main fairing bracket is backordered from HD, backorders are supposed to be released on 11/16 and shipped 48 hrs thereafter. I will photo and upload next weekend if this all comes together. Also have to get inside of lowers painted before install (can't go the oversprayed flat black OE style), Hopefully this will all work out next week.
-
Thanks, I am looking forward to seeing the end result.
-
Come on guys. how about those pics?
-
Great, now two threads about 2010 mounts with NO PICTURES!

Looks great. Thanks for the pix. Do you feel anything different with the new brackets?

The bike is more stable and has more downforce on the front end at higher speeds. :orange:

Wow , that would solve my front-end-swimming-at-high-speed- problem , i guess .
