Did the changeover today to the 2010 Style fairing mounts to allow the installation of new style lowers. No Photos were taken. It is pretty easy, a buddy is a big help to hold the fairing and help with pulling wires out of the old bracket and back into the new one. Only took about an hour to change, but then had to remove the outer fairing and relocate/secure almost all of the main wiring harness, the headlamps sit farther back into the opening due to the angle and the wiring below the radio had to be moved to allow the headlamps to clear. Suggest you remove the headlamps and bezel from the fairing before replacing it, then guess/adjust the headlamp adjustors before putting them back into the fairing, also allows you to check and make sure nothing is in the way of where the headlamps need to sit. Took two times to get the aim correct. I did put a mark on the wall for ctr of beam before starting and just readjusted aim to ctr of that. Anyone could do this, with a friend, and save a hundred over the older style fairings and glove boxes. I really don't think anyone would ever know you had changed the brackets, visually, unless you told them. $139 for the three brackets and $520 for the painted fairings with glove boxes (total $659) beats the $756 for the old style (lowers and gloveboxes). I bought the quik disconnect with the savings. Oh, you could adjust the headlamps with everything back together, but you need a 5MM Deepwell socket and I didn't have one.

Everything is done, except for the actual lowers themselves, I am supposed to get them back from painter on wednesday. I had the inside of them painted black clearcoat vs the supplied texture finish. I will upload a photo then.

What is a 5MM Deepwell socket ?
You have a pic ?

A 1/4" drive 5MM Deep well socket. Not sure what you call them over the pond. I have no idea how else to explain it. Try Mac.com or snapon.com or sears.com maybe you can find a photo of a socket.

Great pictures, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! When completed I would appreciated pictures, to see final results, I want to change over but I am concerned about stripe alignment.

Photos are good, but you took the bike a lot further apart than we did, I guess. I unplugged everything but did not remove radio from the fairing or frt bracket, in fact buddy just held the inner fairing asm while I changed the inner bracket then splipped it right back on. He kind of slipped it forward as I guided the wires thru the hole and then just stood there until I had bracket changed (a couple minutes) then slid it back over wires as I feed them thru the hole. That was the reason for no photos, we neither one had a free hand and with him standing there holding the inner fairing I kind of hurried as much as possible.
The posting above worried about stripes lining up, look at your bike now, they don't line up perfectly with original brackets, due to fairing flairing at the rear the optical illusion just does not show a change.

Is this the same process you would use to install 2008 style lowers on an 09 ?

I'm going to play my ingnorant card for the day right now.
I've been following this thread but to be honest with everyone, I've NOT followed it, so to speak.
I have an '09 SERG and have had the fairing front off and had to tweak a couple items, but for the life of me I still cannot follow what all this new mount hoopla is all about.
If it's for lower fairings, I know several here have installed them without any "new" 2010 style brackets.
So the $64.00 question is, JUST WHAT DO THESE NEW 2010 BRACKETS DO FOR THE 2009 SERG?

It allows you to apply the new style fairing lowers with vents.

And then you save a handful bucks because the new style vented fairings should be cheaper than the old style ones and adding the aftermarket vents . ( But the new style ones don`t have the recurve at the top)

If you want to used the Harley Vented Lowers which look nicer and let more air into the motor to cool. Yes. If you like the non vented lowers (which you can add the aftermarket vent) then No.

Haug Sounds: Do you have a couple pics of the O/B Vented Lowers front & back views vs Non Vented front & back mounted? I like the vented fairings best but I am unsure of changing the mounts which will change the location of the fairing slightly causing possible a visual discrepancy between the tank and fairing lines. Definitely an upgrade I plan on doing but want to do it once, and never look back. Hope that makes sense.

Why the need to replace the large middle fairing Bracket? Can't you just replace the lower fairing mount brackets?

The new 2010 brackets are shorter than the old ones and you because of this you have to change the center bracket too that you get the sharknose fit perfectly . I guess that without changing the center bracket you won`t get it fit or you when you would able to force it to fit then the angle of the sharkose would be changed too strong and would cause a damage by breaking somewhere .

Did you recognize any buffeting change while riding with the fairing new-brackets-mounting ?
i guess the angle of the fairing is changed with the new brackets and it looks like the windshield is more straight up now and for this reason , the buffetting may be worse .

Rode the bike today to the Cycle World International Bike Show in Long Beach, California. The change in the fairing angle and the new vented lowers made the bike respond smooth. With my 14" Cee Bailey and the angle change the wind was deflected over the top and with the vents open to the full open position, the motor ran cooler because the new style electric glide vent is a larger opening and let's more airflow to the motor. Will post pics when I get to the office.

As i see in your pictures , your lowers are mounted more outside than mine , i will try to move mine ( oldstyle with vents) also more to the outside by pushing the fairing-brackets to the outside direction as most possible .
I guess that more cooling air for the engine will be the result .
But when touching the ground , the lowers will get damaged because then they will be more outside than the engine-guard . Hmmmmmmm. :-\

Hi guys hope someone can help here. i would like to change the 09 fairing mounts so that i can use the new lowers on the serg. i know i saw a post here a couple of months a go about how to do it but can't seam to find it. thanks for any help in this matter

I installed the new 2010 mounts (all three mounts) on my 2009 SERG and tried to install a set of vented lowers and they would not fix, the mounting caps hit the faring mounts??? Whats wrong????

You must have the old style caps. In 2010 Harley change the caps and shorten them about 2" inch. I will attach pic to show the difference.

Now ... Don`t you think about a tank-lift .
I guess it would result in a perfect line - More up to the front of the tank and then the direction downwards with the fairing till the front .
I am thinking about this since the beginning of this change of fairing mount .

Please keep us informed. I would probably have to move my handle bars up just a little only by rotating them. This my also help in bringing more air to the front cylinder.

Hawgsounds, do you actually sell the lowers with speakers in them? Also what amp would I need if I just was using the HD Boom speakers in the front fairing?

can someone post the part numbers for the 2010 style brackets needed for this conversion? Also do understand this tilts the fairing up in the rear? I believe I originally read on hear somewhere its a 3 degree change? Thanks!!!!

I have received the 2010 brackets and the difference is the 2 support brackets as well as the front support bracket. I have install them on the the 2009 SERG to accommodated the vented lowers. The customer wanted my custom leg warmers with my speakers kit that I make for the the electric glide. Here are the part numbers with pictures.
