2000 FLTRSEI, What do I have?
« on: June 09, 2020, 11:14:48 AM »

I just recently inherited this 2000 Triple Red from my father last year. It needs to be cleaned up but otherwise it has been well maintained and runs well, 13k miles.  Unfortunately, this is where my knowledge of the bike ends.  I have been considering whether or not to sell the bike but didn't want to give it away not knowing what I have. Any guidance on what I have from whether or not it looks stock to the value would be much appreciated. Thank You

775 produced in that color.  Don't see a lot of these Triple Reds around. Looks mostly stock except for chrome guards on the bags, maybe an owner will chime in.  Other color that year was Black/Orange.  Detail it & with that low mileage should be worth more than the average 2000 FLTRSEI.

From what I can see as was mentioned the guards around the bottom of the saddle bags, rails on the top of saddle bags, grips (maybe, can't really tell), and mufflers (originals I believe had fish tail caps) aren't original. Now for what it's worth... you say you inherited this bike from your Dad have you considered keeping it and riding it in his honor/remembrance?

Here in BC....a bike needs to be only 20 years old (25 for cars & trucks) to have "collector" status and cost less than $200 for full coverage insurance for the whole year. I'd like to have a bike to keep insured all year for the few days a month it's nice enough to ride here in the winter. Over $100 a month to put my FLHXSE3 on the road!!!!

Any similar insurance / registration concessions in your jurisdiction?

I would love to keep the bike but I also inherited a Corvette of his that I want to restore and and selling the bike would help with that project.

Sadly you shouldn't expect a lot out of it.  I like those bikes a lot and have one.  Mine is almost stock too.  But they're not bring much money anymore.  I know of one that sold this spring after the owner had been trying to sell it for six months.  Decent looking bike with 28ish thousand miles on it.  He finally sold it for $6850 and threw in quite a few spare parts to seal the deal.

I imagine with the bad economy, unemployment etc. people having discretionary income to spend on a hobby or collectable item could be low right now, especially with so many used bikes on the market.
I would look at sites like www.kbb.com for motorcycle pricing info maybe even www.cycletrader.com .

Then as far as Corvette restoration you should contact Dan Short the owner of Fantomworks, he is not the cheapest around but his shop does great work and they have a stable full of Corvettes they have done or are in the process of restoring. He used to have a TV show on the Motortrend Network and both he and his wife are military veterans. I have worked with him before on my 1947 Chevy and was very pleased.

Haven't heard an "Otisism" in awhile... thanks for the memory. :2vrolijk_21: Otis was famous for saying his SERG was "slightly modified". :D :D

Otis' bike was only slightly modified.  The one time I rode it at Maggie Valley it was slightly modified enough I almost slightly modified my shorts; so I know his word to be true.

Have no idea what sarcastic mean-spirited evil intent you have talking about my old bike though.  Here it is side by side with this new gentleman's bike.  With the bag guards and lid trim his is actually more dressed than mine.

Even Otis's bike w/the extra fender he had done...

Wasn't modified as much externally is yours is...

And for internal's that might "slightly modify your shorts" it is explained here... but heh "slightly modified" can mean different things for different folks... I refer bike to Otis' bike as an example.

BTW... the picture of your bike you posted was the first day you got it home? :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

It actually just recently came off Greg.  Combination of it having gotten louder and louder after more than a decade in service and my being less willing to "like" all the sound.  It's still 2-1 but it's the Supertrap.  The bike got a new top end all at the same time so the old girl got a little love.

I still got a 2000 SE Road Glide, but mine is the B-O-W.  Still love the bike, but the biggest problem with selling (IMO) is if the bike is fuel injected that is a system that is really not available any longer and is very hard to find somebody to work on it.  There are conversions available, but that is going down a different path.
