Amber turn signal bulbs...........
« on: September 13, 2006, 04:12:04 PM »

Can somebody tell me where I can find the turn signal bulbs that are made with the amber glass rather than those that are coated amber?

Not sure if the Sylvania's are coated or not but I have not had them flake apart like the HD bulbs. They are availible at any Autozone.

Not an uncommon part at most auto parts stores JC.  Look for packages whose part numbers end in NA (natural amber) rather than just A.

JCZ:

I've had excellent results with the Sylvania 1157ALL (Amber Long Life).

No chit!?! I never knew that. Thanks.

Yeap, that's the common nomenclature for the bulbs with amber glass as opposed to painted or coated ones.  Not all mftrs do it.  But nearly all do.  Once you look at them up close you can see the ones with amber glass too.  They really do look different than those that are painted or coated.  That NA nomenclature holds up on most bulb part numbers where the old style amber is an option too.  Not just the common old 1156 or 1157 bulbs.

I believe I got mines from Advance Auto or Auto Zone. One of the cheaper upgrades I got from this site. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Remember when you install them to load them up w/the dielectric grease as the covers aren't water tight.

Ok guys. I'll let my secret weapon for "stealth chrome" out of the bag.

If you're looking for replacement 1156/1157 directional bulbs you must get these chrome/titanium bulbs!

When they're installed on the bike they look like a chrome ball behind the lens, but when you activate your directional, the amber color aluminates right through just as bright as the amber oem bulbs!!

There a little pricey...but they rank high on the cool meter.

I've had them on my bike all summer with no problem.

Another "different" looking solution is Sylvania SilverStar bulbs,  1156AST rear, 1157AST front.  They have a blue cast when not powered up, amber when powered, and are brighter than stock.  I bought mine at Pep Boys, also available at Auto Zone.  So far they've lasted a full year of riding, as opposed to about 2 months for the stock parts.
